TobSame thing is happening to me
I haven't done a lot of testing but I think loading a listenserver when you start TF2 should make it work
I think all the times it didn't work after starting TF2 was when I didn't warm up offline first
Not 100% on this yet though. I can test it later
Yup, same for me, starting a listen server first then joining anything later will always work. Pretty sure this is related to sv_pure since I think badwater.pub uses "2" if I remember.

I find this really interesting because I haven't had to warmup for it to work on Valve comp servers, however I've been trying to play PugChamp lately and besides the first game (where i might have warned up) I haven't been able to use the mod. I don't recall this being an issue with the folders, so maybe it's something with TF2, sv_pure, and VPK loading? I'll try a bunch of things, just keep dumping IPs for me.

The "Select TF2 Folder" is greyed out. The only thing I did before it worked and stopped working was download WinRar. I'm going to uninstall WinRar and re-download the file to see if it works.

The select TF2 folder is grayed out when a proper TF2 path is detected. The latest update saves your TF2 path in the registry so you don't have to pick it with subsequent launches.

Okay that makes sense. It still isn't working though. The vpk and cache files are going to custom as well. I've tried putting the files in the TF2 folder, tf folder, and custom yet it still doesnt work. Can you just tell me where to put the files since it just goes directly to custom?

Custom. That's the only place TF2 will load non-standard VPKs from...
My installer doesn't generate cache files, those only come from TF2 loading the VPK successfully. So that means it isn't applying right in-game. What server are you trying to play on?

okay dude I figured it out. I was playing on a server that didn't allow the viewmodel changes. I asked an admin about it and he said the server owner got rid of it. It was just an mge server so I can find another one to play on. It works fine in casual and comp. Thanks for putting up with my dumb bullshit.

What I don't understand is why a server owner would intentionally disable something like this... it's not like someone couldn't just use r_drawviewmodel anyway. Only Valve servers can restrict that.

I would be thoroughly disappointed if they blocked it because it solves so many problems we've had with r_drawviewmodel and crosshair switcher scripts for years now
not to mention how much effort I poured into it
frankly they should just unrestrict r_drawviewmodel.

Yes, of course a fair game has viewmodels that block half the screen when reloading. That's the spirit of the game.

I really appreciate you trying to fix TF2, yttrium. It's very unfortunate when valve and the people directly communicating with them is going out their way to officially fuck us over.
Here's the youtube link instead btw: https://youtu.be/I9nRPFRD1QY?t=1366

I was never sure of the specifics but I assumed this worked on all sv_pure servers, but it was just 1 that they updated to allow? How would that prevent them from simply banning this on 2?
Valve's team should really take a look at how the Reflex developers work and the amazing customization they allow there.

This is absolutely fantastic, a lifesaver, a godsend, I cannot describe enough how great this is. Thank you so much yttrium <3 Also great job on the VERY easy to use, intuitive installer, it's flawless.
The only thing I found lacking is the fact that the Rescue Ranger is classified under "All shotguns."
I'd like to be able to see the rescue ranger because it fires projectiles and I'm used to aiming with it on, while having the other shotguns disabled.
Thanks again!

If the game developpers went out of their way to remove the ability of hiding viewmodels, going around its against the spirit of the game . WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
Because everyone knows that the game developpers have a clue of what the fuck they,re doing with this game, seen with the dozens of half cooked updates, that introduce more bugs than what they actually fix, and this last update seen as the cherry on top of the cake, by being the complete clusterfuck that everyone saw.
Its good to see that they´re devoting tons of time to the super game changer exploit that is hiding viewmodels, while letting completely obvious cheaters on the leaderboards of MM thats supposed to be the poster for this major update.
They even thank yttrium for pointing out the exploit while laughing .... You´ve honestly should´ve sold it for 20$ or sold it to the people who developp cheats for this game and get a percentage off of it.
I guess i understand better now this clusterfuck of update when the "voices" of the community release these arguments, i guess thats why this update was what it was.

Fuck no.
- I develop shit for the community for free, without the intention of making a profit. I've gotten some pretty generous donations but I never expected to make a cent doing this.
- Never in a million years would I support the fucking cheaters. I don't see my workaround here as explicit "cheating", and if Valve does that's their prerogative, but without a doubt I would never intend to fuck over the players in this community by giving something like this to only blatant cheaters. People arguing in Valve's favor are saying this gives an unfair advantage over players that don't do it, and while clearly it does, I'm of the opinion that Valve should just open this up to everybody rather than restrict it in the first place. The reason I released this was to force Valve's hand in order to open it back up to everybody, not to give a few select people a pretty big edge against their opponents, and selling it to cheat developers would go 100% against that ideology. Fuck that.

it was a joke/sarcasm :)
you did what you did to help ppl that had a problem with the forces viewmodels settings, everyone knows that calling viewmodels off an exploit its ridiculous (don´t they?) since its a setting that has been present on the game since the beginning

mousiopecalling viewmodels off an exploit its ridiculous (don´t they?) since its a setting that has been present on the game since the beginning
Basically, to sum up the entire exploit/design flaw argument, people that call this an exploit do so because it goes against what Valve tried to do. I don't think of this as an exploit because usually an exploit means taking advantage of a bug, and a bug is a piece of code that isn't functioning as intended by the developers. However, viewmodel animations being added to sv_pure 2 is definitely something that was intended by the developers, they just never intended for it to be used in this way. That's not really a bug, it's more of just a design flaw. No code here is misbehaving, it's doing exactly what they thought they were telling it to do, it's just that their original thought process had a loophole rather than the code they wrote to mirror that thought process.
A little complicated but hopefully it clears the argument up. I never claimed that this doesn't give a huge advantage. It clearly does, I just think that advantage should be available to everyone playing the game as a personal preference, just like viewmodel_fov should be unlocked, and just like how zoom_sensitivity_ratio was finally unlocked.

I don't quite agree with the notion that it gives you a huge advantage; it's still more obvious what weapon you're using with viewmodels on.
If you were to brush out some broad statistics as to how much better a player is with/without viewmodels it would be so insignificantly small that on a practical level there'd be no difference. You could sit here all day arguing about how some item or class in the game gives an advantage that is so enormously larger in contrast that this discussion being held becomes so insignificant to the point where it's ridiculous to even have it.
Is there going to be a player you'll miss hiding under you minmodels in competitive because of it? It's banal to even impose the idea that there's an advantage to be gained, I'd argue that a custom HUD is more beneficial. Focus on what actually matters in game balance: items, classes, maps etc. This is again, on a practical level, purely a preference and I believe changing your FOV above 90 is similar since that itself compresses the middle which makes it harder to see with the upside of a very small additive viewing spectrum on the sides.

really? Because I literally 100% can't aim with them on and I know I'm not the only one
really? Because I literally 100% can't aim with them on and I know I'm not the only one
yttriumreally? Because I literally 100% can't aim with them on and I know I'm not the only one
Well it's a preference, if you're not used to having them on you'll have issues until you get used to it. For example, jukebox was telling me he had the scattergun off for a long time, presumably because he felt that he aimed better. But then he switched back as he said he felt that was better for him at that point in time. And I've personally been doing the same thing on every single class over the years, going back and forth as to what I've felt was best for me at that very moment in time. I don't believe that simply having all off is better, it's simply a preference as to how I feel will benefit me the best at any given point.
I'd like to add that I'm sure there are people out there that wouldn't be able to aim if they turned the viewmodels off :))

The program stopped working for me when I moved it to a different folder in my directory (same partition though). It only works when I launch it from where I've launched it first, which (unfortunately) is my downloads folder. Any way to fix this?

Not sure. Sounds more like a Smartscreen issue or something. Literally nothing in the program is folder-agnostic. It doesn't extract anything locally, or check any local directories.

AviraHEUR/APC (Cloud) is a heuristic detection routine designed to detect common malware characteristics. Avira AntiVirus recognizes unknown malware proactively. It is based on a file analysis within the Avira Protection Cloud infrastructure.
I guess because it extracts text files and then edits those text files it's malware, ok.
I submitted a false positive report to Avira, hopefully they respond quickly and update their signatures.
The reason it says "cloud" is because the heuristic pattern it uses is updated via its own cloud, not because the application it detects malware in accesses the cloud.

Well, they confirmed after reviewing the binary and source that it's a false positive. Hopefully this signature gets pushed out to your client soon.
