yomps Family Fundraiser announced

Last weekend, we tragically lost Justin “yomps” Swilpa. He represented the best of the TF2 community, not only as a player, but as a person. To support his family in these trying times, the community is coming together to host a two-day-long event celebrating yomps’ life and legacy.

We invite you to join us in this effort this weekend on twitch.tv/eXtvEsports to watch, compete, and hopefully donate. Even if you are unable to contribute monetarily, please at least tune in to remember and honor the life of a bright soul who was taken from us far too soon.

Overview

The yomps Family Fundraiser will take place on Friday, July 24th and Saturday, July 25th, featuring a variety of miscellaneous events including a tournament.

The tournament will be split into two divisions.

Invite Division: The headline event of the fundraiser spotlights four of the top teams in North America. They will first play a Round Robin group stage before advancing to a double-elimination knockout bracket.
Open Division: Teams will play a four-round Swiss tournament, after which the top four teams will move forward to a double-elimination knockout bracket. Signups are open to all players who donate a minimum of $1 to the cause.

An EU tournament could possibly be arranged depending on community demand.

Schedule

(All times are in EDT)

Friday, July 24th:

3:30 PM: Stream begins
6:15 PM: Open Round 1
7:00 PM: Invite Round 1 / Open Round 2
7:45 PM: Invite Round 2 / Open Round 3
8:30 PM: Invite Round 3 / Open Round 4
9:15 PM: Day 1 Wrap Up

Saturday, July 25th:

2:30 PM: Stream begins
6:00 PM: Knockout Round 1
7:00 PM: Upper Bracket Finals / Lower Bracket Round 1
7:45 PM: Lower Bracket Finals
8:30 PM: Grand Finals
9:15 PM: Tournament Wrap Up

Ruleset

The tournament will largely follow the same ruleset as RGL Traditional 6s Season 3, with the exception of the two-half structure. Instead, 5CP maps will be played as a single half with a 30-minute time limit and 5-round win limit. Meanwhile, KOTH maps will be played to a 4-round win limit.

Map Pool

For the Open Swiss rounds, maps will be played in the following order:

Round 1: cp_process
Round 2: cp_gullywash
Round 3: cp_snakewater
Round 4: cp_sunshine

Meanwhile, the Invite Round Robin will play maps in the following order:

Round 1: cp_process
Round 2: cp_gullywash
Round 3: cp_snakewater

In all knockout matches, the full RGL map pool will be used.

koth_product

The pick/ban format for the knockout portions are as follows:

The higher seed chooses whether to be Team A or B.

A bans 1
B bans 1
B picks Map 1
A picks Map 2
A bans 1
B picks Map 3

Signups are live right now and will close at 9 EDT this Thursday. Visit yomps.rgl.gg, where all event and donation information will be posted. Donations can be made at the Swilpa family's GoFundMe.

There is a separate page for registering, so I'm pretty sure that the paypal.me/rglgg page is solely for donations to yomps's family through RGL's PayPal.
I won't be able to play the tournament, but I'll definitely catch the later matches and GF :) It's great we have a way to celebrate the memory of a legend and support his family.
Also, even if you can't contribute financially, it would be really valuable for everyone to get the word out about this event.

I would love to do something for one of the few people in our community that no one had a single bad thing to say about. Every player top level or not had a fond memory watching or playing with yomps.
He set an example of friendliness and compassion without even realising.

players banned for a significant amount of time can contact me or another admin and we'll look at your case, players with cheating and perma bans are not allowed to play

currently the money does go into the rgl paypal account as yomps's family has not given us a way to give directly, however we have contacts with their family and will have ways to donate to them hopefully in the next say or two. on top of that every donation rgl receives until the tournament ends and all of the team fees will also be going to the cause, and sigafoo told me that he will be covering all of the fees that paypal takes out of the final total to make sure that they get all of the money.
