As far as i know there's not much you can do, best you'll get is Valve restoring the item which means you get a dupe back (if it wasn't duped already) not the original. Which lowers its price a bit cause traders are scum. They won't remove the item from the scammers backpack and give it back to you or anything like that last i heard.

And thaaaaaat's pretty much why I never go first. You can take back Paypal payments, but you can't do anything once you've traded your items away. Well, as far as I know, at least.

A good rule of thumb in many situations, trading or otherwise, is not to trust third-person accounts. There is absolutely no guarantee that something like this won't happen. It sucks you had to find out the hard way, bro.

A couple months back, I got scammed out of a Circling Hearts Team Captain, which is around $600 in the current market. The trader who scammed it out of me also had countless pages of SourceOP rep and had other people who vouched for him within the trading community. He went by the name "Samin." The thing about Paypal however, is that it reveals to other parties of your name and email. I'm assuming that Roody got this guy's Facebook through email or some other sort of correspondence. Anyhow, I found the scammer's twitter, which fortunately enough, was public to view.

His twitter contained no information on himself, but he had several followers whom were clearly his real life friends. I checked out his friends' twitters and easily found out what school they went to and the general vicinity of where they lived. After that, I successfully found the phone number of one of his friends and managed to squeeze the scammer's phone number out as well. From there, I called the scammer's number and threatened him by convincing him that I was willing to get his parents involved and the police as well. It only took a matter of time for him to eventually give in and give me back my hat in exchange to stop stalking him.

Most of the TF2 trading community is around 14 years of age, so I'm willing to bet your scammer is most likely around that age as well. Just threaten him and also find out where he lives. If all else fails, I'm sure you can get enough people on the internet to message him and freak him out.

Convinced his friend that the scammer was a mutual friend. I just had to drop some names/locations and he was convinced. And the part about your scammer living in Israel makes things a ton harder, can't help you there sorry.

Speaking as someone who got scammed out of a Holiday Headcase in similar circumstances: you're on your own. Valve won't ever restore paypal scammed items, steamrep can only give them a scammer mark. Be prepared to live without ever seeing that spartan again ;_;

Go to SteamRep, and inform them, he'll be reported as a scammer

Hold on here... maybe I just did not read your post too well or something. But you never gave any information as to how he even scammed you. Sorry if I missed it.

1) But when I am trading I make sure the purchaser goes first. They send the money then I give items to them. If they do not go first then you're not trading correctly.

2) The other thing is I look up and make sure the person I am trading is not someone's alt account. There are alot of scammers who use reputable people's steam profiles (fake) and pretend to be them. This is very common.

3) If you were not given your money through paypal for goods, you probably should contact paypal. See if you can get their account banned or whatever penalty the paypal managers can find.

4) I make sure to keep logs of transactions if anything goes wrong or if something fishy happens. That way if you need to talk to the Steam police (https://support.steampowered.com/) which I would advise to at least send as much proof as you can to them and see what they can do. Which may possibly be nothing, I seriously do not even see your situation explained anywhere.

5) Post this information on sourceop - http://sourceop.com/ . There are alot of powerful traders who frequently visit this trading forum and can probably help you along your journey to maybe get your money back and/or unusual.

Anyways sorry for the long rant. But the moral of the story is be smart in your trades. Keep logs of transactions. And be weary of people who are on alts who look like the real-deal. Good luck roody.

PSS. Your best bet is to talk to people on sourceop. Those people are very helpful when it comes to the tf2 trading world.

Paypal won't touch it. The issue with paypal is that there has to be tangible goods. Things like ESEA, virtual hats, etc they say they can't do anything about it. I know this from last season when I paid for someones premium and they never received it but it came out of my bank account. When I tried to get my money back, after contacting ESEA and they didn't do anything, I filed a complaint. After a while they basically said they (paypal) couldn't do anything because of the nature of the "goods"
