So, since I was having problems installing the konr wings into my hud, I had the idea of using images instead of fonts for your crosshair which brings with it all kinds of possibilities.
Thanks to Trog I now know that it is possible (thx for the help again) so I'm putting the results here for you to download.
These are the rainbow konr wings that I made in photoshop and that I'm going to use from now:

With the files comes a pic with instructions from Trog on how to "install" it.
Basically, you copy the "materials" folder into your crosshair folder and then copypaste the text from the text file into your hudlayout.res.
The great thing about this technology is that it isn't limited to konr wings.
Want that crosshair from another game but it's not featured in any hud? Can be selfmade now.
Always wanted to have a banana as your crosshair? No problem.
If there is something specific that you want but you can't shop it yourself, post it here. Maybe I (or someone else) can help when I/whoever has some time.
IF ANYONE NEEDS HELP OR ANY MODIFICATIONS ON THIS, CONTACT ME ON STEAM.
YOU CAN EASILY MODIFY IT BY ALTERING THE .vtf FILE IN THE "MATERIALS FOLDER".

It works as a part of your HUD. I see no reason why it would not work on sv_pure.
Edit: Just confirmed. I took that SS on my server and it was running sv_pure 2.

Dear god you don't know how long I've wanted something like this but didn't know how to make it. Bless u <3

IIRC TF2 didn't used to allow this with sv_pure, so it might be a steampipe bug.

This does not replace any texture. All it does is add an image to the HUD. I don't think sv_pure is intended to ban those. You cannot get unfair advantages from it. (Except shiny crosshairs of course).

That image *is a texture*. sv_pure is a directory structure based whitelist, and sv_pure 2 is supposed to force *everything* that isn't *specifically* meant to be be universally allowed (custom HUD scheme files) to be the default. Not working on fresh/new files sounds like a bug.

Well, aren't there HUDs that utilize images by default?

Not old ones, at least they didn't work in comp.

Popular HUDs using this currently are Broesel and HUDAS Iscariote. Just use it until it stops working, we all know how quick Valve is at patching things.

That is completely different from what I was talking about.

Erm. You said it would not work in sv_pure 2. I asked if there weren't HUDs that utilized images anyway. You replied with "not old ones" (before editing the post) and I asked if those therefore did not work on sv_pure=2.
I don't understand what you are trying to tell me then.

I think this sentence is implying that it should not work with sv_pure in the present as well and that something is wrong because it does.
Is it just me or am I derailing my own thread with an idiotic discussion about semantics?

I would like to make something with my own hands, can you tell us how?
The only notes are installation notes, not how to actually make one of these

That.
If you have Photoshop you can simply make your crosshair, save it as tga with transparency and then convert it into vtf.

What kind of centering should I make for the image?

What kind of centering should I make for the image?
The center depends on your game resolution. If you use photoshop to make your crosshair you can just sue the ruler tool (ctrl+r) and make to crossing lines to determine the center. For example at regular fullhd you would put those lines at 960 and 540. if you want to save time and be precise, simply draw one half of your crosshair and then mirror it so both sides will be the same amount of pixels away from the center.
Edit: I forgot to say, your image should always fit your screen resolution. You make the crosshair already centered in photoshop, hence the tips above. You don't want to make a small image with just the crosshair and center it in your HUD config, that would be tedious.

shifty1gwould it be possible to change damage numbers this way?
Not really. What you are doing here is just creating a permanent "overlay" over your HUD.
I guess you might be able to use images for damage numbers in general but that would be something different and is probably rather pointless since numbers are actual characters and you can simply change the font.
