Shanty is an invade-ctf map, in the same style as ctf_converge. The objective is to deliver a neutral flag into the enemy's base to score points. When the flag gets captured, or gets dropped for longer than 10 seconds, it will return to the center. The flag cannot be picked up again until another 10 seconds have passed. The flag can be immediately picked up after being dropped from an enemy.

Shanty is currently on a3. I imagine that it will run much better on 9v9 than 6v6, due to the size of the map. Feel free to prove me wrong!

Just a silly idea, but what if there was enough water in select places for soldiers and demos to do some of the trick jumps in Jump maps to make it more 6s friendly?

Several map makers asked me to do something about it. I'm certainly not doing it just out of my own judgment.

There is absolutly no reason for the first ban, and a second one would be even more unwarranted. In fact his dedication to such an overused joke should be rewarded. Its not like his one comment per map thread is singlehandedly scaring away new mappers. His comment is actually the only reason I click on threads like these.

I don't think you need to worry about super jumps to make it more soldier friendly, there are ramps and walls aplenty. After taking a few minutes to roam the map you can get to mid/intel from spawn at like 29:49 on the clock. Demo gets there around the same time at :48, and scout gets there at like :46 to :44.

Also, the map/gamemode combo looks really fun and I hope we can find some people to play it over the weekend or something.

Map has been updated to a3. The right entrance/left exit has been closed off in favor of making the map more focused in an already unfocused gamemode. Additionally, the side route of mid has been shrunk by a bit.

there's nothing to really expand on, ctf just doesn't really work in this game

there's no incentive to fight people in this map as soldiers can literally jump across the whole map with ease

medicing on this map is a nightmare
it just isn't fun
i'm sorry for my opinion

Yeah, medics and scouts are completely useless. You're probably better off with 2 pyros and an engy.

Yeah I was playing as scout and almost always went to sniper since I couldn't ever catch up with soldiers to fight them. As far as sniper goes the sightlines are pretty fair but still I think you'd be better off on a defensive class like pyro or engie. Maybe if you had to hold the intel on the point for 4-5 seconds it would make it less have your solly grab intel and dive on point since you cap instantly it does not really matter if you get killed by a sentry/whatever else they have.

Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense, I've had similar issues playing this in pubs even - fights are spaced far apart and aren't fun. Heck, the map might even work as just a 3cp like Whitefrost.

Good idea, I'll look into it! Right now I'm trying to make offensive and defensive roles more defined, and this will help.
