If you're on wifi, that's your problem right there.

Could be your router or network card overheating. It could also be if you're on Wifi rather than using ethernet.

I don't know, because I'm on wifi and I hardly even get any major ping spikes.
It might always depend on where you live though :/

Before I hooked up ethernet, I used one of these network adapters and it would constantly overheat and I'd have to stick a fan next to it.

Make sure that there aren't any scheduled updates aswell at random times that would cause a spike.
