Thanks! Getting in on this one. Hoping it picks up less of my keyboard than my SnowBall does.

For anyone wondering, I can definitely recommend this mic. Been using one for about 8 months now, and I love it.
It may not *quite* reach the quality that the Snowball puts out, but it's definitely not bad.

Actually last time it was on massdrop was like last august, so its not all the time, despite it being heavily requested.

Im kinda pissed I actually ordered mine 1 week ago because I didn't want to wait anymore for a new discount and bam here it is.

Better than any headset Microphone.

+ Picks less typing than normal stand microphones (aka. Snowball)
+ Doesn't use any space on desk

- It will add weight on whatever you're using for Audio
- Can't use them with in-ears

Directional = "Cardioid" = ~180 degrees of sound pickup; Omnidirectional = 360 degrees sound pickup.

Pretty sure examples of both are: directional = Cardioid = Blue snowball (some have directional) and omni = zalman = zalman mic.

I have used both. Typically, you use omnidirectional for music recording, sound recording, etc. Its not bad for a personal mic, but it will easily pick up sounds around you. Hence "omni" directional. voice, probably cardioid would be best.

But honestly, I didnt realize zalman was omni... but I dont feel bothered by they keyboard presses. Felt the snowball picked up keyboard more.

Direct generally is better for gamers because it's intended to pick up sounds in one direction. So if you dont want the sound of your keyboard to be picked up, then use a direct microphone.

Here is a youtube video on the difference between the two.

Edit: I linked cardiod (which is more directional 1/2 omni). Wiki on microphones and how the pick up sound.

You must not check often because the last drop for it was last month. I received mine the other day.

For anyone interested in getting one, I'd highly recommend them. This will be my second, not because my first broke. I just wanted the new version with the pop filter and mute switch.

Can anyone compare this to the Zalman? I'm not unhappy with my Zalman but if this is an improvement I may as well drop the minuscule amount of money on it

Cheeriss, the reason the snowball picked up the keyboard more than the zalman was because the snowball is a larger mic. It has a bigger diaphragm, so it is more sensitive. They're both condensers (pretty sure, because all american lav's are)
If you have issues with loud noises (people, keyboards), getting a zalman/modmic will reduce it more than a desk condenser mic. Personally I use a dynamic mic because they're not very sensitive, but there aren't many cheap options for a desktop/lav.

Mine arrived, just wondering if anyone else here has attached one to ad700's before and has any advice. Getting the 3M tape attached to the mesh seems like quite the hurdle.

mine sticks on perfectly to my k612's mesh (it's even at an angle!) you should be ok, although i would apply constant pressure for ~minute when you first apply

My base clamp has been attached to my ad700s for about 3 years now. It's attached right to the mesh and everything, right under the Audio Technica logo.

edit: yes, what springrolls said. clean well with the alcohol wipe, let dry, apply and keep pressure on it for a good minute

if the surface you're applying it too isn't smooth, use a lighter to heat up the 3m pad a bit. Also make sure you clean and DRY the surface you're applying it too. Then get ready to apply heavy pressure for like 10 minutes and then have it sit for an hour.

Its a bit of work to do right, but once you get it on there it's not coming off unless you scrape it off.

Does anyone here own the modmic and has it mounted onto a headset that already includes one? My SteelSeries Siberia v3 has a mic that can extend out, but I was wondering if I could even apply the modmic to that side of the headset, and if the built in mic would cause interference with the modmic at all.
