#7 Renting a server by the hour in TF2 General Discussion

I don't think he's trying to get everyone to switch away from their current hosting, and yeah, most people can pay for it just fine. But knowing this is a possibility can only help.

Plus the option to spin up a premade server (the shortcut he mentioned in the guide) is a great backup plan in case your server ever has issues and you can't find another to use (match nights/whatever).

#62 Short Circuit fix in TF2 General Discussion

Some people seem to not understand that in addition to his other weapons, engineer is capable of building a sentry that continues shooting nearby enemies even while he is not interacting with it, building a teleporter which is able to move players instantly cross-map, and a dispenser which can provide a non-negligible amount of health and ammo for the team.

A class that is able to do this should not, in addition, be able to 1v1 the entire rest of the classes. Also IF a class is able to 1v1 the rest of the cast, it should still be a good fight, ideally the one with the better aim and movement should be able to come out ahead.

#1 CEVO - LF Demo and Medic in Recruitment (looking for team)

CEVO post here
It's also possible that we'll do ugc silver/plat on the side, but this is primarily a CEVO team.

Current Roster:
Scout: Dr. Raven
Scout: Knight
Pocket: Nef
Roamer: Phelix
And we've had a few good tryouts but are still looking for demos and medics.

About Us:
This team has been together in some form or another for about three seasons now, though we were pretty casual about it most of those seasons. We like to think we're fun to play video games with, nobody rages, and we all have experience in ESEA-O, UGC Silver 6's, and some highlander, for what it's worth.

What we're looking for:
We're asking that tryouts have 2+ seasons of 6's experience, and obviously a mic/mumble. Beyond that, you have to be able to work with the team and a good attitude couldn't hurt. We don't know our scrim schedule yet, but we will be scrimming roughly 3 nights a week. If something comes up we're pretty agreeable about finding subs, but we need players who can show up a good majority of the time.

Feel free to contact Raven or me about tryouts or if you have any questions

ALSO with stuff going on for the holidays tryouts will have to be after the fourth of January, we have players out of town until then

#5 bubba LFT Backup Scout Mid-High Open ESEA/CEVO in Recruitment (looking for team)

Great backup. Like b33f said, every time we needed him he was able to quickly join. He's also able to play multiple classes to some degree or another and has a good attitude.

Enjoyable teammate, and goes huge every time you insult his decision to offclass

Played for these guys briefly, they were a lot of fun, definitely would have kept playing for a long time had their main pocket not come back

#3 TF2-macro problem in Hardware

If your macro thing can execute commands, have it execute "steam://rungameid/440"

That's essentially what the steam generated shortcuts do.

We didn't want a direct confrontation. Sorry Pegman, we probably could have handled it better but you should know just as well as anyone that there's no good way to cut someone.

Also I said "sorry", not "lol, sorry". Not to be petty but in my eyes those have very different meanings

#14 College laptop advice? in Hardware

#13 I have a second gen i7 and the integrated graphics on it is enough to get around 60fps with a good performance config.

I'm an engineering major (going into my senior year) and I've been extremely happy with my combination of ~900$ desktop (i5, 6950, 120hz monitor, some other stuff) and ~600$ laptop (i7m, integrated graphics, 15", good ssd, ~5 hours of battery if you're conservative with the brightness and stuff). Though I just recently got a good phone and found myself barely touching my laptop anymore, but I haven't been back to school yet.

I guess my suggestion would be either: get a desktop/laptop setup (but I'd still get a laptop strong enough to at least kinda play tf2) or get a laptop and get some good peripherals for it. The things I like most about my desktop are the better usage of desk space (no computer actually on your desk) better keyboard quality, and screen space. All of that is pretty doable in a laptop too as long as you plan some money for it.
And battery life is kind of a concern with the bulkier gaming laptops but modern intel+nvidia setups (and to a lesser extent amd) are getting a lot better about smart graphics switching and power gating and some other things which can make your battery life a much better when you're not doing anything demanding.

#11 Help making a pc in Hardware

There's very little difference between optical drives. If you want blu-ray get a blu-ray reader or burner. If you don't get a dvd drive. Something simple like this should work just fine

Also, that build looks solid for the price you're paying. It should do well in most games; fairly high settings at 1080p
