could you be more passive aggressive?

I'm sure I could if I tried a teeny bit harder

milehighmilitiaPeople in this thread are simultaneously praising the capitalistic approach of making proposals for coverage and then are unwilling to accept the consequences of TFTV losing the contract to VTV now that Multiplay has made their decision. Given that this was always a possibility once the two organizations formally bid against each other, Arx is probably right that what would have been best overall is some amount of cooperation from the get go. Even if it shouldn't have been aired out in public, I think that is all Arx is really trying to point out here. All he wants everyone to realize is that they aren't the bad guys, and he is right - neither side is really at fault. We should accept the outcome and watch the event just the same.

CRowenigmaArxI'm venting because TF.TV decided to take a different approach instead of cooperating for the good of the game...is there are a particular aspect of our coverage that you believe wouldn't be the best for the community?

do you believe TFTV as a brand is weaker than VTV?

do you believe Lange/Skyride/Comedian wouldn't have done an incredible job on the technical/production side?

are Sal/Admirable/Greg/yuki + a host of other articulate prem players (who will all been there in person) not good enough of casters?

in what sense, objectively, would this outcome not have been the best for the community?

(read bold for tl;dr)

In all honesty Arx, this needs to be addressed. I loved VTV's coverage of i46, and I actually watched a lot of VTV when I was first getting interested in 6v6. That being said, don't pull out this "us fighting for coverage is hurting TF2" bullshit when in reality VTV is the only thing splitting the community. Look at statistics for streams, page views, whatever. It's blatantly obvious that the community has chosen to make TF.TV their hub for competitive TF2. And why shouldn't they? TF.TV offers great NA an EU coverage, while VTV offers only EU coverage.

You can argue about who has better casters/streams/whatever until you're blue in the face, but the fact of the matter is Teamfortress.tv has become the central hub for competitive TF2. Hell, TF.TV still links to VTV streams/articles, and that's a one way street. On TF.TV it shows your "VanillaTV wants you" article, and shows about 10 streams online (mostly NA, some euros including Byte). On VTV there is no NA section. It shows 2 streams up right now (the 2 EU ones). TF.TV is trying to promote all TF2. VTV seems to be promoting their TF2.

I love both you and Beta when you guys cast. In fact, you two are one of my favorite casting duos (behind only DJCbear). But to be honest, I really hope you guys see the light and jump ship. TF.TV is growing steadily, and VTV has been treading water ever since TF.TV's EU coverage has gotten serious. The only thing that's holding back TF2 at this point (if you can call it that) is the fact that VTV is struggling to keep people from switching to TF.TV's streams. You realize that without VTV's stream during EU Prem matches, TF.TV's streams would likely have gotten 2000 viewers, right? You want to help TF2? Let TF.TV cover i46, like 90% of this community seems to want.

Wait, so in match tickers where both orgs are casting, we don't specifically add TFTV as a caster? What am I missing here?

SideshowAaaand this seems like a pointless discussion because VTV got the proposal, whatcha whining about? You're covering i49.

For which we've been consistently bitched and moaned at for being terrible human beings ever since, jus' sayin'

(I did upvote upfrag, fricking reddit ruining me, the guitar gif though, because it made me chuckle)

TwitchTVJohnWhy would you post their proposal in this forum thread? That's classy.

I'mm a bit ambivalent here, but skyride already posted the tf proposal in the earlier thread

LangeJust so people are clear, I don't plan to do any commentating. I'll be in the background moving stacks of cables from one side of the venue to another.

Wait, what? We agreed you were coming as the tea boy...

We actually have several announcements regarding i49; but Byte being the strict leader that he is, there is a blanket media ban on staff posting anything about them until he say....wait, NO BYTE NOT THE WHIP NO OH GOD PLEASE STOP HELP ME

(seriously, we do have announcements, but waiting on a couple of things to be confirmed)

The first thing I can confirm is that Lange agreed last night to come and assist VanillaTV at i49.

Yes, Lange will be at i49.

You really need to calm down, skyride.

Speaking personally, I made it perfectly clear I was NOT coming as part of staff for i46, and thats why I didn't have a free ticket, food, or accommodation paid for.

I'm not gonna post here anymore cos it's like talking to a brick wall. I apologise for clogging the forums up with this rubbish.

skyrideYe it's a shitty situation.

The bit that bothers me most is that Multiplay's main reason for going with VTV is they have a history with them, when in reality it's actually just been me and comedian doing literally everything except casting. Arx and beta are the guys heading it up for VTV from what I can gather, best of luck to them, but even they themselves know they can't pull off anywhere near the quality we can. Unless someone in VTV has recently spent some real time learning about audio gear, video, and graphics, I would imagine it'll just be VTV's standard level of online coverage with a webcam on the screen (which isn't bad, it's just not what it could be). Assuming we got it, I was going to ask them if they wanted to cast and leave the offer open to them even if they said no.

skyride. First of all, a big part of Comedian's setup was paid for by VanillaTV, which you know.

Secondly, your constant bashing of Vanilla is getting slightly out of hand - im noticing it more and more recently, and it's doing neither TF.tv nor VTV any good - and aren't we both working towards the same goals, more promotion of the game we love to watch/play?

Thirdly, at i46 there were stage sound issues that you refused to listen to solutions on, and preferred to leave it till the Sunday to actually try the suggestions that were offered (which actually ended up fixing the problems).

To answer your query about the coverage being dire, we have people within VanillaTV who work with audio as you know, and we'll have a tech team there as well, to ensure a decent level of quality.

People saying that they'll watch TF.tv online coverage over on site coverage - you know that this means that Multiplay will probably be disinclined to support TF2 in future due to the numbers not being there right? If you wanna risk that over the sake of a simple pissing contest, then fine.

I have zero issues with TF.tv personally, and most of you know that I have both streams open when theres a match casted by both, to ensure that TF2 gets the viewers it deserves, but please, don't start bitching about how crap our lan coverage is until you actually see it!

#91 TFTV i49 LAN Fundraiser in News

Sal is right, this is the thread and fundraiser for getting a USA team to i49. There is nothing stopping broder setting up a similar drive - I've no doubt it would get funded, but saying that excess funds from this should go to it is silly.

TF.tv have already laid out what the plans are for excess donations.
