#1 PSA if you have a Nexus 6p in Off Topic

If you have a Nexus 6p that you bought from google, you can have it replaced for free with a Pixel XL (even if it's out of warranty). Mine is almost 2 years old, and they replaced it with a Pixel XL 128GB.

Most 6p's have battery issues at this point (shutting down at ~15%) - they will replace it for that.

See this reddit thread about it

#19 carpel tunnel syndrome in Off Topic

First of all, obviously go see a doctor instead of relying on internet advice. If your insurance doesn't require referrals, make an appointment with a hand specialist, they deal with this the most.

Second, your median nerve (the one affected with carpal tunnel syndrome) isn't the only nerve that you can mess up in your arm/hand/wrist. Another commonly injured nerve is your ulnar nerve, so this is why you go see a doctor.

There are a few tests that you posted about that you can do for carpal tunnel. If you know what to expect from the tests and think you have carpal tunnel, you are obviously going to be a bit biased doing the tests on yourself. If you go to a doctor, they can use an ultrasound to measure the median nerve in your wrist to see objectively whether it is actually inflamed or not. The "tests" you posted about are very subjective and not very accurate.

The first line of treatment for carpal tunnel is wearing a wrist brace that keeps your wrist flat. There's tons of them on amazon that you can get for cheap. It's bending your wrist/hand for prolonged periods of time that entraps the median nerve and causes inflammation, and therefore numbness along your thumb and first two fingers. Something as simple as this is good.

Alright, that's enough providing medical advice on TFTV for today.

TLDR: Go to your doctor instead of posting on internet forums for advice, even though you sometimes get lucky and find someone with some medical knowledge.

#15 Low carb diet in Off Topic
lighthousejust wanna make sure that everyone knows that a no-(bad)-carb diet is literally the same as starving your body, only you dont feel hungry because your stomach is full of other stuff. your brain runs on glucose and glucose alone. the best way to lose weight is just to exercise, not to mention you get muscles too.

Yes, your brain runs on glucose, but there are other ways for the body to produce glucose. There is a process called gluconeogenesis that takes place in the liver. It converts proteins/amino acids to glucose for your body to use. This takes place in every person, not just those who are on a ketogenic diet. You get plenty of protein on a keto diet - therefore you have plenty of glucose.

Low carb diets can definitely be useful, especially for people with type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes. Don't spread misinformation on a topic just because you don't like it.

#50 im dropping out of college in Off Topic
eeebeing a PA is like being a DO

like idk why you'd ever do that to yrself yr just broadcasting to the world you didn't make it into med school smh

Not everyone in the medical field once aspired to be a doctor, then couldn't get into med school and decided to do something "lesser". Not everyone wants to be an MD...

If you don't want to go into the medical field then figure out what actually inspires/intrigues/interests you. Finish your degree and it will open up many doors, not just in the medical field.

Do not lie to the person giving you anesthesia. If you smoke weed errday you need to tell them that. This will make your anesthesia/surgical experience so much more pleasant.
