#7 flashing bar on damage in Q/A Help

Thank you all, everything has helped. I'll try out that ImagePanel method, and otherwise I'll use a font I've found (just didn't know I had to put stuff in clientscheme.res).

edit: Rawr that method is really nice, but is there any way to make the flash a little less long-lasting and sudden? I really like the smooth flash from the other method

edit edit: actually I prefer the font method, and it works, but for some reason lots of other stuff in my hud is gone now. Help?

#3 flashing bar on damage in Q/A Help
BLoodSireyou could try taking one of the crosshairs that do it (knhud does) offsetting it so that it is situated where you want, and then making it some insane size

if you turned the opacity (the 4th color number) to 0 on all but the part that flashes, it should work just the same

Thanks, but the problem I'm having is when I change the wide and tall, nothing really happens (ie idk how to change size). Also I don't really know how to incorporate fonts into a hud (where to put the font files? how to make them work?). Thanks for your help anyway

#1 flashing bar on damage in Q/A Help

Hi, so I've been trying to incorporate into PVHud a wide, thin horizontal bar runing between the health and ammo counts that is invisible, except flashes red on damage (like a visual hitsound). I've managed to get something, however all I can do is a tiny red line, and I don't know how to increase the size.

In HudAnimations_tf, I have:

event DamagedPlayer
{
Animate HitIndicator FgColor "255 0 0 255" Linear 0.0 0.1
Animate HitIndicator FgColor "0 0 0 0" Linear 0.2 0.200001
}

In hudlayout.res, I have:

HitIndicator
{
"controlName" "CExLabel"
"fieldName" "HitIndicator"
"visible" "1"
"enabled" "1"
"zpos" "2"

"xpos" "c-100"
"ypos" "c-100"
"wide" "200"
"tall" "200"

"font" "???"
"labelText" "_"
"textAlignment" "center"

"fgcolor" "0 0 0 0"
}

If anyone could help me with getting a font to work and increasing its size or (ideally) using an ImagePanel to get a really thin line that animates like this, I would be very thankful.

Regular meditation can be pretty helpful in keeping you chill and concentrated. There are lots of webapps (eg smilingmind, buddhify and some others) that can help you to get started.

#18 TF2 Balance in TF2 General Discussion

I'm not saying competitive TF2 is broken let's fix it

I'm asking if you think competitive TF2 is broken and whether it needs fixing.
I've seen a lot of complaint about pyro, demo etc. so I thought maybe this thread might be appropriate.

If your answer is no, just say so and don't flame and -frag.

#1 TF2 Balance in TF2 General Discussion

So recently it's been really irritating me how some classes in this game are almost straight up better than others, and how skewed the whole balance of the game is. It's pretty cluttered and the great rebalance update helped with some of it but broke some other stuff. Most game modes are broken in your average 12v12 pub and even with weapon bans and class restrictions (like in hl and 6s) we can only go so far in rectifying this. I'd like to have a broad discussion concerning whether TF2 is really in need of a rebalance, or if things are better staying as they are (ie medic, demo, heavy being the most powerful classes, pyro being less useful among other issues). Another option could be refining a "pro-mod" such as TFTrue and working with that more than TF2 in its current state.

tl;dr is tf2 broken, does it need fixing

#4 Crosshair color change when healing in Customization
//--CROSSHAIR CHANGE WHEN HEALING SCRIPT--
//this works mostly, however it may break a little bit
//if you hold down mouse1 while pressing weapon binds
//
//default is green while healing, white when not, and weapon binds set to 1, 2, 3
//
//if you use an autoheal script, swap all "+attack"
//to "-attack" and vice versa, except one

alias +heal "+attack; cl_crosshair_red 0; cl_crosshair_green 255; cl_crosshair_blue 0" //change these colour values to whatever you want
alias -heal "-attack; cl_crosshair_red 255; cl_crosshair_green 255; cl_crosshair_blue 255" //change these colour values to whatever you want

alias wep "-heal;bind mouse1 +attack" //don't change this attack command if using autoheal
alias medigun "-attack;bind mouse1 +heal"

alias primary "slot1;wep"
alias secondary "slot2;medigun"
alias melee "slot3;wep"

bind 1 "primary" //change to your primary weapon bind
bind 2 "secondary" //change to your secondary weapon bind
bind 3 "melee" //change to your melee weapon bind

this should work

#19 Why is Payload bad in 6s? in TF2 General Discussion

I think the main reason Payload isn't played in 6v6 is simply because if you're playing Payload, you might as well play Highlander. The weapon bans and class bans in 6s is balanced around the mobile, to-and-fro atmosphere of 5CP and to an extent KOTH. I guess if I was playing 6s on badwater defense or something i'd run a pocket heavy, a demo, a sniper, a roamer, a med and an engy. On offense, a cart heavy, a med, a demo, a pocket solly, a sniper and a scout. If you're using those kinds of classes it would probably be smoother and more enjoyable playing HL anyway.

#14 Seeking scout DM/general advice in TF2 General Discussion

A decent mouse will really help. Bad wireless mice tend to have awful input lag which will throw off your aim horribly. If you feel inconsistent, or like you should be doing better, it's almost definitely something to do with your computer/input devices (speaking from experience).

Once your system starts working properly, you'll find it so much less frustrating, trust me.

#14 Mouse click delay? in Q/A Help

Laptops and bad mice have awful input lag. My old mouse (Logitech m105) gave me about 1/4 of a second, and many wireless mice, especially ones designed to be really ergonomical, are even worse. Playing on my Macbook (on windows partition, ridiculously well optimized to give best performance) gives me about 1/8 of a second, even when I'm getting 100 fps. In general, if you upgrade your hardware, you'll get a much better result.
