pulpfixionAfter it's all said and done, these invite/main players(babies) wont have anywhere to go BUT CEVO so whine and complain all the fuck you want, if you ever want to play TF2 competitively looks like it's going to have to be CEVO, THE MAJORITY have spoken.
pulpfixionReally sad to see a team put in a lot of hours time and dedication all season to have the most important match of their season decided in such a way even after pulling off an upset win to get to the finals.
ESEA really needs to step up here. A team up 4-0 with two of their players suddenly being dropped off the internet is enough proof for me and anyone with some common sense that something shady was going on. + frag this if you want to see a Crunchy Bunch vs Playground Tactics rematch.
If not a rematch at least give us a statement say something!
yo bro let's have ALL of our finals online so this can happen in EVERY final!

mno and this is why youre still a fucking moron
Yes, let's compare TF2, which according to ESEA doesn't even break even, to a game with several times as many players and as much money in it in the same league. Also please keep responding to each of my posts with something condescending and trivial, it's making my time between builds at work much more entertaining.

Man are you in for a rude awakening when 80 percent of the games you've paid for are rolls. There's not going to be "competitive tf2", there's going to be pay-for pub stomping
Well the first season is going to be rough for both good and bad players, but I'm sure it would even out over time.
If anyone followed this conversation months ago I tried to push for ESEA but at this point who really cares...can we just get over it? Whatever happens happens. Play the game or quit -- your choice. Either way, this argument is pretty pointless now. Stop taking shots at Seanbud, stop repeating the same tired arguments over and over. Let's just play some TF2. The game is still good, and I'm sure we'll have fun either way. This isn't worth getting upset over.
Businesses die all the time. Competition is what drives innovation.
ESEA is like the Kodak of cameras. Enter the age of the digital camera folks.

It was a good debate and we shook hands like gentlemen at the end of it. Clock and marmaduke both brought up really good points about how items work in tf2 and made me think about things from a different angle.
We didn't talk esea too much, though it did come up briefly in the parking lot of carrabas.
A lot of people have been pretty passionately arguing on behalf of esea, but passion doesn't change people's minds. Esea could have gone a long way repairing their relationship in the community with an apologetic post from lpkane.
The other major point esea hasn't addressed, that has actually loomed over their heads the whole time, is what is the benefit of premium? There hasn't been any value to paying for it for members of the tf2 community since the beginning. It makes the financial calculation pretty easy, paying just a league fee is cheaper than paying a league fee and a premium fee which is worthless and needs to be cancelled in between seasons.
My flight out of nyc is boarding soon. I know tf.tv isn't sitting on the edge of their seats to hear my opinion, but I'll post a vlog about this I'm a few days.
yeah dude i definitely enjoyed the talk, i honestly never thought about it from your perspective either although i do stand by my opinions on the subject (:
and the whole premium thing is kind of 50/50 our fault their fault. they've provided pug and scrim servers that we NEVER EVER use which is where the value is supposed to come in. for cs/css esea was the ONLY place you went to pug or scrim so we as a community could've shown some more support for the league by actually using the shit they gave us. i've been saying this since the gotfrag days :/
although with pug servers we had the potential of getting fucked if someone lagged out/game crashed and their spot got jacked by a cs player, and esea never did anything to remedy that so i'll give you that. but again we never used the pug servers to begin with so i can understand their lack of motivation to get shit fixed.

the point is the more finals/matches that are played online as opposed to on lan the more fucked up shit happens you fucking moron.
that was an open final where like $60/person is on the line, imagine cevo-p when/if it's like $5k, the incentive to do shit like that only increases. the incentive to cheat (good luck trying to figure out if a medic is wallhacking and not being blatant about it) and do other shady shit increases.

remedykuzaReading this thread it's almost like I'm re-reading "A Bugs life" which I often read at night to my kids. The grasshoppers need the tiny ants collecting resources for them to keep their luxurious lifestyle. But when the ants had finally had enough of being treated like crap they turn on the grasshoppers and win.
I play in ESEA and will continue to play it s long as it's up, but when the invite players are being just as obnoxious as lpkane, it's hard to feel sorry for them if they lose LAN.
most invite players are not acting that way, but you have to understand killing lan for them (the main reason they play this game) will upset them. it's 100% understandable why lower teams would leave esea for cevo at the moment, but acting like its going to help the game in some way is pretty wrong. it was also the esea administration that treated the lower level (and some of the higher level) teams like crap, not all of invite treating open like crap.
I don't want ESEA or LAN to die, I like playing in ESEA and if I had more time to play I would strive to be in invite. I'm sure at this rate my kids will make invite before I do but that would be pretty cool as well. It would be nice if there was a LAN for them to strive for.
I just hate lpkane's attitude towards the whole situation and TF2 in general. When you don't have the support or respect of the owners of the league you pay to play in, what do you really stand for? To quote the great Pittbull; "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything". The invite players being disrespectful is just an added kick in the teeth cause I fully understand the people that went to cevo this season, even if I'm not one of them.
So I'll continue to play in ESEA, but I'm not about to throw a couple hundred bucks at the league this season like I have in past. If ESEA was hurting because there just weren't enough players, I would help in any way I could. I would provide prizes, league fees and premium for a bunch of people. I've already proven this multiple season past. However, I believe ESEA is hurting because of their actions alone, which I cannot reward with sponsorship. I'm sorry if I view this situation as a realist and an adult, but that's just what I am.

He doesn't realize everyone started in open apparently. We just teleported to main/invite. Damn engineers. Apparently in todays day and age its fun to be a trolly rebel on forums.
Invite players aren't kicking anyone in the teeth.. We're just defending what we've built upon for years and years. We're the same people who mentor your team and teach you how to play. Some people just don't sugar coat their words and say it as if you're a 4 year old child. You'll take advice on how to do rollouts but not on how to NOT kill competitive TF2. Interesting. Some of you literally remind me of the guy that kick bans any good player on their server so they can enjoy raping all the newbies and feel good about themselves for once. Why play competitive if you don't plan on being competitive? There's pubs, lobbies, pugs, mge, plenty of alternatives.
When you think about it, CEVO is like the old tf2lobby.com and ESEA is like tfcenter.com, we understood going from tf2lobby to tf2center because it was an upgraded version with more potential. Right now league-wise we're going from tf2center back to tf2lobby for no reason. Hopefully this makes some more sense to the newer players.

What happens when the bottom third of CEVO-Open - these are probably UGC silver/platinum level players - begin to get stomped by pugteams/IM+ caliber teams in their debut season and quit? A 60 team league can quickly dry up in a few seasons once the "we're paying to lose" mentality begins to settle in.
The honeymoon period is always going to be sweet - but the decisions being made now will not show their REAL consequences until about 6-7 months from now when all of the long-term players are going to finally be able to make sense of the new reality.
Good luck, CEVO.

there's a great chance that this gets lost in the sea of responses that are pouring in right now but
can anyone tell me:
what happens when finals get fucked up by ddos? like, for example, 1 player on a team gets obviously and blatantly ddosed, will there be a reschedule or will that team be forced to scramble for a backup? what happens if 4 of their players get ddosed?
how they plan on implementing a cevo-p division with a higher prize pot without increasing cost to the players
how long until cevo-p is a thing?
will cevo-p be application or placement tournament?
how do they plan on having a prize pot large enough to encourage players to play in cevo-p and not sandbag in lower divisions for paydays that would not only be easier but similar in amount?
how is the anti cheat team going to work, since there's no lan and all. will there be demo reviews/disputes? whos on the anti cheat team? how will manually banning a player from demo review work?
how will client detect shit like kernel cheats and ring0 cheats? wasnt the whole reasoning behind esea's client being so intrusive its' ability to detect these type of cheats?

Now before I get yelled at for suggesting this, my team won IM... We are supposed to play in main this season. This plan would effect us.
ESEA needs to take emergency action. kill the main division, shift all the main teams down to IM, and all the IM teams to open. Have a season to keep things afloat. If cevo fails this season, everyone will flood back to ESEA.

Will CEVO still run the "old" model of Professional in which there is an elevated expense ($35-50 from what I remember) along with a bigger prize pot? Anyone with the guts to play against the best could play in it back then - and usually they would fill a 16 team division every season.

While you're asking good questions, you're asking them to the wrong people. If you are truly interested in finding answers they should be asked on CEVOs website, not here.
I honestly think that 80% of everything in thread has become nothing but assumptions, conjecture, and fallacies. I could give you what I think they should do, but that is not a real answer.
Edit- I would also like to point out to whomever said people should boycott other corps too for the same practices. ESEA is not a publicly traded company, they are not required to put profits ahead of everything else.

considering every thread bashing cevo has had swift responses from multiple cevo admins and this is the mecca of 6's tf2 in NA i think this is the perfect spot to ask these questions.
oh and #700 that advertisement used to be true, it's not anymore afaik. there was a massive ban wave a few years back where a fuckload of people got banned over the course of a month that were using organner, it was hilarious/insane. esea has not ever done bans off of demo review, so i'm sure if organner worked in esea people would be cheating to win in 1.6/source since there's no lan final

ESEA needs to take emergency action. kill the main division, shift all the main teams down to IM, and all the IM teams to open. Have a season to keep things afloat. If cevo fails this season, everyone will flood back to ESEA.
this. I don't know why the first step would be to completely drop tf2 when they could save money by dropping divisions. It's not ideal but even if they had to get rid of main AND IM, they should. It used to be only invite and open, and at least we would still have lan.

marmadukeGRYLLSconsidering every thread bashing cevo has had swift responses from multiple cevo admins and this is the mecca of 6's tf2 in NA i think this is the perfect spot to ask these questions.
It's exactly the same with ESEA. ESEA admins are on this site and will sometimes answer questions relating to the league. When it comes down to an anti-cheat, routing, ddos, etc, you would be submitting a ticket or making an ESEA thread.
