glisscan I get some help understanding the purpose of the roster lock? I know of at least three teams now who have been negatively affected by this rule.
The purpose of the roster lock in a short tournament like this is so that teams can't pick up players from other teams who have been eliminated from the event or use ringers who weren't available for the entire tournament.
glisswow, so one forfeit loss results in both teams being disqualified entirely from the tournament? why aren't forfeit losses treated just like a normal loss, so we can just go into the consolation bracket and keep playing? this is honestly kind of unreal, I really would like to get any kind of reasoning for running the tournament like this.
A regular forfeit loss doesn't result in anyone being disqualified from the tournament and counts as a "normal loss". The reason that teams were eliminated from the tournament after this particular forfeit loss was only because it was a double forfeit.
Unfortunately for whatever reason neither team checked into the match on the CEVO website nor did they make any effort to get the match scheduled in the match communication thread. When there is a double forfeit in the upper bracket of a double elimination tournament, it's impossible to decide which team should stay and which should be removed, so we removed both teams. I guess the only way we could have handled the situation differently would have been to flip a coin, but seeing as neither team made an effort to check in or schedule the match, we assumed the teams were not interested in playing.
Anyways, I can understand why you're upset about being removed from the tournament after just one loss, so come into our TeamSpeak or send me an email and I'll comp two of your players in Season 5 ($18x2=$34) to make up for your problems in the Spring Classic.

the reason that neither team made an attempt to schedule is because the default time was actually fine and we agreed over Steam to play at that time. my team was unable to make the agreed-time, and I informed them that they would be receiving a forfeit win. their team didn't check-in to "receive" the forfeit win, which results in a double disqualification?
additionally, I don't wish to speak for woodpig, but they already played one match, so why is the assumption that they just don't want to play in the tournament after that?
the other way to handle the situation correctly is talk to the teams about it, possibly. no attempt was made to reach me as far as I am aware, and I submitted a support ticket and made this forum post. the burden is on the organizers, not the players, in this situation. unless you're seriously suggesting that it's a normal response to remove players from a tournament simply for a forfeit loss instead of simply sending them to the loser's bracket?
like I understand there's a timetable for a tournament. just a simple message, "we have to proceed with the bracket, please report your win within one day or we will be forced to remove you from the tournament" would pretty much have solved 100% of this
