everytime i restart tf2, my main menu will lose its background and be replaced with the purple black checkerbox missing texture, and on joining a server most of the textures are checkerbox'd

a few seconds after joining the server my game crashes and continues to crash every time i join a server
i've validated my game files a total of 3 times, but every time i restart tf2 the problem occurs again and i need to restart
tf2 is downloading 1.7 gigs of shit everytime i validate, and this is not okay with a 100 gb data cap
the only thing i've recently changed about tf2 is using that explosion mod that replaces the particles with the sapper destruction particles but i already removed it thinking it was the problem.

i've never actually had many issues with tf2 before, and i've always used dx8.
if it means anything, the validation message has said that 65 files were missing each time

if all else fails you could just backup your cfgs/maps and reinstall the whole game

thats actually not an option. I have a 150 kb/s download speed and reinstalling the game would take the better part of the weekend of it just spending the entire time downloading, and i have a match on wednesday/thursday
