Get a cheap clip on mic like this and the best headphones the rest of your budget can buy. You really don't need crystal-clear audio from your mic, unless you're recording for things like a stream, podcast, or whatever. Good headphones, however, are a major quality of life improvement, and as a bonus you can listen to music in public on them without being "wearing a headset on the bus" guy.

didnt even haggle and there were other listings for 30 at the time too

I bought this a few months ago. It's the best headset I've had. I'd totally recommend.
