Greetings, I’m posting in behalf of the Bad Wolf team and the RETF2 (Spanish Team Fortress 2 Network) about our latest project, Retrospective.
Retrospective is a TF2 tournament that will take place from 24th to 26th July in the Euskal Encounter XXII in Bilbao, Spain. It’s the most important LAN Party in the country, with over 4000 assistants in this edition. Due to the big amount of people that have stopped playing Team Fortress 2 in Spain since the last year, we have decided this event would be perfect to promote TF2 in Spain, in order to get new players to play it and old players to get back to the game.
About the tournament, it’s divided in 4 different categories: a Dodge Ball tournament, a Ready Steady Pan tournament, a 4v4 tournament and a 6v6 competition. The 6v6 one will only be available for the Euskal Encounter attendants as a LAN event, but online participants are welcomed in any of the first 3 categories.
Let’s talk about the online categories:
- Dodge Ball: In case you don’t know what Dodge Ball is, it’s a TF2 mod in which 2 teams of Pyros face each other in a map that spawns homing rockets from its walls. Your only way of attacking is using your flamethrower’s airblast to repel the rockets and make them aim for the other team Pyros. There will be 5 players per team, and the first team to win 11 rounds wins the match.
- Ready Steady Pan: Based on the modality with the same name, but not related with the pan.tf tournament, we are making a Ready Steady Pan tournament. The teams will have 5 players, with only the Sniper, Scout, Pyro, Soldier and Demoman allowed. All clases but Sniper will have a class limit of 2, and there will be only 1 Sniper allowed per team. First team to win 3 times wins, or if it has more wins than the other team at the 30 minute mark.
- 4v4: In our version of the 4v4 modality we have forbidden the use of the Medic and Engineer classes in order to encourage a faster gameplay. All the other classes are allowed but with a class limit of 1 per team. All the weapons can be used. The matches will be played in KotH maps, best of 5. The finals will be streamed through Twitch with commentary in Spanish by Cúspide, and Drawer, Bad Wolf staff member.
- The LAN category will be 6v6, with standard rules, played in 5cp maps, 5 rounds. It will be streamed and commented through Twitch too.
Weapon whitelists and timetables for each modality are available in the tournament website.
To encourage people participating, we have modeled both participant and winner medals that will be awarded to the players. Valve has agreed to include them in-game, and after they are introduced they will be distributed. Also, we will do a cosmetic raffle after the event, so each participant has the chance of winning a hat. They aren’t really valuable but we are sure people will like them.
