I think I might have the same problem, I've posted about it before: http://teamfortress.tv/forum/thread/15214-tf2-frequent-lag-spikes/1#post-17
It happens with TF2 and OBS as far as I know. It's also incredibly random when it happens (sometimes my ping is stable and just fine and I can play for hours, other times it's to the point where tf2 is unplayable). The thing is, when the big lag spikes are occurring in TF2, I can still talk in mumble and hear people talking fine. I'm not sure what it is, might be related to my isp. I'm in Ohio with TWC if that means anything.
okay nvm, we still need a roamer as well.
Hello, our team is looking for a new medic for the upcoming CEVO season. We're probably at a low/mid ESEA open level atm, but nonetheless we want to improve and take the season seriously.
Our current roster is:
scout - proto
scout - straightshot
roamer - cadsmar
pocket - afterglow
demo - safrix
medic - ???
Contact proto for tryouts:

Really, the only thing I'm interested is the ability to go straight to avi. How does one go about using virtual dub progammatically? Is there an api for virtual dub or something? I know lawena is open source so I might be willing to attempt adding that feature and submitting a pull request. I'd rather stick with lawena as I have that pretty down pat to be honest.
Yea it happens to me and at least one other person I know. I've also seen a few others get some serious lag spikes on various servers.
I posted about it before: http://teamfortress.tv/forum/thread/15214-tf2-frequent-lag-spikes/1#post-17
Is my case similar to yours? Also, is there a reliable way to test if this is just tf2 or my entire internet. And yea I've noticed it does happen with OBS as well, which leads me to believe it's my internet, not tf2.
I could do it if you want. But if I do it, it'll involve pretty simple editing comparable to this movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJnmbLXdkFI
Which might even be what you're looking for as the frags would be easy to follow. Honestly if I edit like in that movie I could get it done in 1-2 weeks. Still waiting on jumps for my jump movie democall so I can do other stuff in the mean time.
edit: here's my steam profile to add me in case you want to

Yea this happens to me on all servers. It's like severe lag spikes, where I'm just frozen for like 2 seconds or so at a time. My ping is also pretty sporadic (ranging from like 40-80 on a certain server). Sometimes it's fine though. It happens to another guy I know as well. It just started like 1-2 weeks ago. A fix would be greatly appreciated. And yea it's definitely not related to fps, my computer is good.
Edit: here are some screenies of the lag... it might be different from what OP is experiencing.
From the netgraph it looks like there's a period where there's no activity followed by a massive spike.

Yea doesn't work for me either, which is really quite obnoxious as a jumper.
It just says for me:
Playing demo from jump.dem.
And then nothing happens. pov demos work ok though.
