So, I've played around with comanglia's config and have ended up breaking something. I get bulletholes on players although I still get blood on walls or the floor.

I've figured out what caused it for me, I edited comanglia's config to have mat_picmip "-1", but also having mat_compressedtextures "0" seems to turn the weapons pitch black "reliably" at least for me. Setting mat_compressedtextures to "1" also fixes the bug repeatably (for me).
