I have a similar setup on most classes. I'm pretty sure with couch_sitter's suggestion you'd be constantly attacking, but I haven't tested it. This is how I would do it:

I think the issue is a lot of people can't confirm if they can go unless there's a solid date. Not sure how that can be solved if they won't give us a solid date without solid numbers though.

That being said I should be able to go no matter when it is, you can put me down as confirmed (if you could list me as GammaOrionis instead of clementinestars that would be cool too). I'll pay as soon as registration is set up (is there a plan for that?)

Also, I don't think it would be awkward if people were drinking if the venue allowed it even if you're unable to. As long as everyone keeps it reasonable and doesn't go overboard. I know there was alcohol brought to the Chicago LAN last year and it seemed to go alright. But that's only if the venue is OK with it, of course.
