SirBlitzkrieglighthousewow what a coincidence this thread was bumped the day i got accepted to join a band! :DThe Ibanez SR series basses are some pretty nice instruments.
thinking of buying a new bass since im going to be playing gigs and recording now. anyone got any suggestions? (the band is a power metal band but i also like basically any other kind of metal/rock)
I would look at the SR650; it has a nice thin neck, P/J pickup configuration, 3-band eq, and an eq toggle switch if you want to rock the pickups in passive mode.
G&L makes some affordable J bass and P bass style basses.
Otherwise, Fender Jazz basses are pretty much the gold standard, and well worth the ~$600US investment for a Mexican made model.
In the end, it boils down to what feels best for you. Try out as many basses as you can, and try to buy used whenever possible.
+1 on ibanez SR basses, some of the best pieces of wood you will ever spend your money on.

If this happens can you use old ETF2L whitelist? im sure things like sticky nerf and scout/med buff will change the way the maps are played, but playing with just the plain old guns and some unlocks would be a cool throwback and would be more than happy to play in a tourney organized as such.
