I enabled Adsense on one of my videos, and I've made exactly $0.00 with a little over 1k views.
I believe likes and favorites are used to spread the word of youtube videos. They can get you on the front page of categories, also when a youtube channel likes or favorites a video anyone subscribed to their channel can see that they did so and often times if they enjoy this channel they will also check out the video.
tl;dr
Likes+favorites= More views.
