ondkajaAdysky brings up a great point on gambling websites. I actually think this topic deserves its own thread. I checked the TF2**sy site and I saw numerous red flags:
I think you bring up a lot of points with which people share the sentiment, and have been circling round for some time but nobody has really gone and publicly said something about it. Considering Yak has almost 150 upfrags on his first comment, it demonstrates shared opinions, but it doesn't prevent the sponsorships and promotions.
Even with regulated gambling industries such as sports betting, the prevalence of addiction and damage resultant from them is ever increasing. Not just every day folk, but for example footballers being almost suffocated by gambling advertisement end up putting their entire livelihood and short lived careers on the line and partake in sports betting (See Ivan Toney and Sandro Tonali for topical examples). I'm not trying to offer sympathy to the footballers, I'm just pointing out the damage gambling can cause at every level of involvement with the sport.
While it's not really measurable to see the influence of TF2**sy sponsorships and the increase in traffic for the site, It would be ignorant to assume it's negligible. I think it's quite indicative of some players attitudes where they are willing to sell out on their ethical principles for what is essentially UK minimum wage over the time period of an official match (Cannot confirm exact payment per match but this is a rough equivalent of what I have heard).
At the risk of downfrags it's worth also questioning, might these players also be a victim to an extent? Where gambling advertising is so prevalent, have they even considered the implications of accepting sponsorship, or would it simply be negligence for them to not have done so? As Adysky mentioned, one of the team members was a minor when receiving sponsorship, which demonstrates the predatory behaviour of these sites towards influencing anybody and everybody they can.
I've personally seen people lose 100s on tf2/csgo gambling sites, and 1000s on sports betting. They know it's an addiction, and it's damaging, but they can't stop themselves. Promotion of gambling sites is a cancer on our a community.
