How's this? Looking to keep it around $800-850

EDIT: I have a keyboard and mouse, the monitor is there to upgrade on the ancient VGA one I have now.

-Firstly the ram is unpriced, so that is going to affect your budget.
-CPU is great for the price unless you want to get an AMD processor and mother board to save more money that could go towards your graphics card.
-The GPU is already old and therefore not idea at all. I would recommend the MSI 760 Twin frozr, it is only $30 more, however the 960 is just around the corner so if you can wait you would get vastly better performance for only a fraction of the price more.
-The case is not my cup of tea however cases are subjective so yeah.
-Monitor has a slowish response time compared to other monitors on the market. Are you interested in 120/144hz?

Other than that you have a good basis for a build.

#61 Improved default HUD in Customization

Nice changes, it certainly added some really neat things however the target ID's are still huge boxes on the screen though. That is my only criticism.

zigzterAlright so I added a case (probably going to sell my current computer to a friend), and removed the GPU for now to wait for the 960, then I can see if I can get that one or see how much cheaper the 760 has become.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($364.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($129.99 @ NCIX)
Memory: Team Xtreem LV 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($164.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($115.98 @ DirectCanada)
Case: Cooler Master Storm Scout 2 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($99.99 @ Memory Express)
Power Supply: Corsair RM 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($124.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Total: $1000.90

Does that look good?

Edit: Also changed the PSU 'cause I like how that one is supposed to be quiet, plus it's modular.

Sound good. The chances of a gtx 960 being released soon are high. I would also recommend saving some money on the case and possibly the ram, (I don't know a thing about 3D modeling so you might need it more than I think you do).

Another thing to take into account is that if i were you I would invest in a high end cooler and then overclock the i7 quite a bit. Not sure if you could stretch your budget this much though, you may need to wait and buy this later down the line.

#2 3D model positioning in Customization

It is controlled by the HudPlayerClass.res file in /resources/ui folder.

To move it search for (within this file) "classmodelpanel".

Then change the "xpos" value until the model is the the desired location. I change the value to "100". You can change this value to more the model to your liking.

I hope this helped.

Nice frags and some nice editing without it being too over the top, they could have used the high quality config by Chris as some anti aliasing would have been nice.

zigzterI have absolutely no idea what is good hardware anymore, so hopefully some of you fellows can help me out.
I'm mainly aiming for it to be good for handling 3D modeling, but I'll do some gaming on the side as well (I don't need to play the latest games on max graphics or anything).

What I threw together:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($332.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Asus Z87-Pro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($151.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($174.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($109.97 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card ($184.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $1014.91

Few notes:
Budget-wise 1 grand is really starting to push it, so I don't really want to go over that.
Might've gone overkill on the RAM..
I'd highly prefer a nVidia card (from what I can tell they're a lot more stable with Maya)
I plan on dual booting Windows and Linux
I'm using a 1080p 144hz

My current set-up:
Asus P7P55-M mobo
i5 750 cpu
GTS 250 gpu
4 GB RAM (don't remember stats on that)

I'd be ok with stripping parts from that if they're not ancient relics by today's standards.

That would be great for modeling, however I would go for the newer 4790K and a z97 motherboard. Then I would save money on ram and the PSU (get ~500w), then buy a GTX 970 instead, if you can.

#13 Windows Equivalent of the Macbook Pro? in Hardware

Dell XPS ultrabooks are awesome, Asus has some killer notebooks too. If you are not planning on gaming heavily on them both of those would be ideal.

Change of scene, if you always work at home, go to the library and work or stay at school. Lots of breaks will stop you from feeling lethargic.

#3 HUD Ammo problem in Customization
harvestHAWTHORNEHello,

For some reason the ammo in reserve still stays on the screen when I have an ammo with no clip on the screen. For example, when I have the sniper rifle out I ammo in reserved for the SMG next to it.

Any suggestions?

im pretty sure you have to leave all the ammo visible set to 0
but all the enabled set to 1, thats what i usually see in huds

That has made all of my ammo disappear.
