#111 TLAN (Toronto TF2 LAN) September 5th 2015 in LAN Discussion

Been home for a little bit. Was chatting with Spyromancer and collecting his footage since he's borrowing a couch here and that's convenient.

I gotta start by saying it felt unreal for me to be organizing this event, then managing to run it with minimal problems. But in the end, I didn't make this event fun. All of you guys were the life of the party. Ontario TF2 players have waited a while for an opportunity to meet up and play locally, and when given that chance, we made it absolutely great.

I want to thank Sheo and Benn for introducing me to the Hunter & Lucas eSports club. They were really nice people, giving us time and space to run the event without picking us apart, so to say. However, most importantly, I want to thank Miggy for helping me get the important logistics of this event figured out. We would not have this event without you. Thank-you again for your donation to the event. Unfortunately, it was too late for me to put to use for this event, but I will certainly put it towards an event we do in the future. Thanks to Dashnerr for driving down to help out. Disaster or not, an extra helping hand, especially someone as knowledgeable as you, always means a lot.

A bonus shout-out to the younger players who came out to play: It might seem dumb or odd to say, but we are the continuing life of this community, and many of you are already phenomenal players. Keep doing what you love, and keep those amazing plays coming!

The venue staff were very impressed by how things went. They would be more than happy to have us again, and I would love to do another event.

In the meantime, I will create a feedback thread where you guys can post, and I will forward it to the venue staff. There were definitely things I could have nailed down better (Mumble or a TS for teams). But overall, I'm so glad with how things went. Believe it or not, this was the first event I have taken the lead on running. For a first event to go that well, again; totally unreal.

I will gradually get contact with all of you, as I have keys to give out. This will take at least a week before I can trade them, so be patient. Other than that, I hope you all had fun. My knees are so sore, and despite being super humid out, I need a warm bath. I am looking forward to what future events hold!

#32 do you play games with lights on or off? in Off Topic

Playing in darkness and looking at a bright screen is straining for eyes. Though I wouldn't say what I do is any better for your health, but for a different reason.

I draw, so I like having lots of light around me. Often when I play, I will have 2-3 lights on at a time in my room to balance out the light between the ambient light and my monitor (My monitor isn't very bright because it bothers my eyes. My ambient lights aren't very bright on their own.)

The reason though this is probably bad anyway, is because with lots of light around me, it messes with my melatonin production probably more than just starting at a phone because there's so much light. More recently, when it starts to get late, I turn off a light or two, gradually, until I turn off my computer and sleep.

Just a warning if you haven't left yet:
Traffic is really bad right now. Baturst is closed for a portion north of St. Clair, and Eglinton is jammed from Bathurst to the Allen. Please allow ample time to get to the venue!

Last-minute change: Screw configs, and screw Metalworks. Viaduct is in.

#4 Steam Music in comparison to other music players? in Off Topic

UI is annoying to use, and it doesn't make it easy to figure out how to use. I never use it, and keep it muted in favour of Spotify, iTunes, VLC, or good ol' WMP.

#7 Tenkeyless mechanical keyboard suggestions? in Hardware

I like the feel of the CM Storm QuickFire TK. Not quite Tenkeyless, but a middle ground between that and full-size. Unfortunately, I went for a full-size, so I don't have many recommendations in the way of tenkeyless.

I will bring P-rec, We can ensure that's installed along with all the custom maps. (If we install P-Rec, then we'll have to wipe configs and HUDs manually, or re-install P-Rec every time we wipe the custom folder. We can decide tomorrow)
My bigger concern is remembering to save the demos after the fact. We'll have to remember to copy them before we log the computers off.

Double post to say I'm going out to buy prizes. I'm expanding the participation prize to a key for everyone and cookies!

#77 b4nny beef in TF2 General Discussion

Another point to be made is that Grant/B4nny kind of relies on TF2, to make some degree of a living. To write rude posts to production crew and other players is not exactly a wise thing to do when TF2 is a big factor in your life.

EDIT: I just acquired the needed keys. They won't be tradeable until close to a week after the event though.

Some information on food (I'll post this on the first page later, I'm still working on prizes, which are looking good): When you enter, you'll get a name tag and a "meal ticket" which is good for a burger and a pop. If you want more than that, it's $5.

lucrativeWell since the players are capped at 24, there is only 1 possible team left so no one should really be lft (Cept my team still needs 1 scout)

Get your 6th and I'll post teams on the first page.
