#143 The Mouse/Mousepad Thread v2 in Hardware

So my deathadder (chroma) has seen better days in many ways and I'm unsure if I should try and stick it out with it until the true end of its life or if I should get a zowie ec1-a or HyperX pulsefire FPS and start using that as my main mouse.

  • My mouse3 click seems to never register, and this has been the case for about a year now. I used to have my reload key for overwatch and CSGO on mouse3 (yes I know that I'm weird for putting it there but that felt right to me) and I eventually had to put it on one of my side mouse buttons
  • Many spots on the mouse have worn down from extended use and the oils from my hand, but my side grips seem to have not a lot of actual grip, seemingly from general wear and extended use. The one on the right side of the mouse also seems to be coming loose from the shell, and if I run my fingers from the middle of it to the back with a bit of pressure, the grip can start to slide off at the back
  • I'm unsure if my hands have just gotten larger or if the shape of the deathadder is no longer a good mouse shape for my hand but I have had a few instances where I have felt a slight bit of wrist strain after lots of use. It hasn't been frequent, but maybe once every 4-5 months I've experienced this pain. It's not unbearable, but if getting a larger mouse will help solve this problem for me I'll happily change what I'm using as my day to day mouse.

I've tried the g403 before and oddly enough it felt a bit too small for my liking, so that ruled it out of my future potential mice. Also, the ec1-a that I got a while back had left and right clicks that were far too stiff for my liking and the side buttons felt just awful and cheap. However, I've since heard that they've updated these versions, fixing the too tight left and right buttons and making the side buttons not feel as flimsy and cheap. I loved the shape of it so much more than my deathadder and would love to use it again, but I'm unsure if getting a larger mouse like the HyperX pulsefire (for reasons mentioned above) will help me avoid occasional wrist strain, I'll be more than willing to give up getting an ec1-a for it.

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated if anyone has experience playing with both the pulsefire and ec1-a

#8 Razer mouse sensitivity issue. in Hardware

If you're looking for a similar shape to the Abyssus, look at the Asus Sica. The Abyssus V2 is also an option but if you don't want to buy Razer mice I can completely understand. There just seem to be many better alternatives to Razer mice.

smokeerazer mice have so many issues with them, i had a deathadder for about 5 months and the software is just awful

Funny enough I've almost never had issues with Razer synapse and I've been using Razer mice for a solid 4 years. However, my deathadder's mouse3 click hasn't worked for quite a long time now but I'm fairly certain it's well past its warranty, so I'll just stick it out with it until it eventually stops working. It's rather frustrating because I used to put my reload key for csgo and overwatch on mouse3 (yes I know it's incredibly weird but that's what I became used to) but eventually I just gave up and put it on one of my side buttons.

Thankfully zowie updated the ec1 and ec2 to not have such tight clicks and made the side buttons feel less fragile. How the old models were eventually caused me to return the ec1-a that I had bought and continue using my deathadder. Had it not been for those things I'd still be using the ec1-a to this day. The shape is just so superior to the deathadder's and oddly enough I didn't mind the scroll wheel. It was a bit loud for my liking when scrolling but I enjoyed it very much overall nonetheless. Might try out the HyperX pulsefire and see if that's worth using once my deathadder reaches the end of it's life cycle as well..

Apologies for the essay but I do enjoy talking about computer peripherals

#63 Ready Up: Competitive Team Fortress 2 in TF2 General Discussion
joddglitturewhy do tf2 projects take so fucking long
inb4 people calling me out on being "ungrateful"

little to no ROI and limited exposure
michael-tf2 isn't mainstream enough, so projects concerning it are generally more hobby-esque and take longer.

This, but also most of (if not all of) us have lives outside of the game and there are important things that need to be done.

If I could make a living off of doing match write-ups and news articles, I would absolutely pursue that path. In fact, I'd love to. But since I'm unable to, when other things in life put me in a time crunch, compromises have to be made.

kiaDoes this still work? I tried it with evehud and it didn't.

yes it does work (I haven't seen anything regarding it being patched as of late) but if you're playing in any competitive league you shouldn't use it

#5 RichardLewis talks about his history in comp TF2 in TF2 General Discussion
scopeWho's Richard Lewis?

(VERY) well known and respected eSports reporter. Very honest about the things that he covers on his show (how you interpret his delivery of those topics can change from person to person) but I never new that he played TF2. I guess you can always learn something new each day

#6 So is MGE practice or no? in TF2 General Discussion
lachatI was told not to surf rockets

Surfing damage is perfectly fine. Whoever told you to not surf damage is either incredibly dumb or just trolling you unfortunately. In fact, surfing damage is so crucial to so many classes that it's basically a hindrance to your overall play if you choose not to do it.

lachatI was told not to surf rockets or jump too often because it's considered bad etiquette but I don't see anyone else doing it and I lose a lot, so is this person wrong? I dunno what to do.

Counterjumping can be considered bad etiquette since it's a 1v1 duel but like if you've been knocked off of high ground jumping back up isn't the type of counterjumping that some people do where they just jump straight up for no apparent reason just to get above you and shoot a rocket or 2 at you from above. That kind of counterjumping is what gets people mad.

Assuming that when you say there's a problem with your peripherals, I'm assuming you're talking about your computer's hardware not being able to deliver a good framerate that's playable. A good framerate where you get above 60 fps average (anywhere from 80-100 fps is decently easy to achieve with one or 2 hardware upgrades if you can't get a consistent 60) and it will certainly make your time that you're putting in a bit more worthwhile. I've tinkered with so many graphical and resolution settings on my laptop just so I can get ~40 fps. And while it's dreadful to even have to play in such a low framerate, that's all that I have right now unless I drive an hour and a half to go home and play on my much better gaming pc (which even without a dedicated graphics card can still run tf2 at over 200 fps on max settings) and only happens once every month at best on the weekends, I still manage with what I have

Faster CPU, cheaper RAM. If you're spending more on RAM than on the CPU you're doing something wrong.
Faster SSD.
Faster HDD.
Much faster GPU.
More reasonable PSU. A 550W PSU that costs more than the GPU for a 250W build doesn't make sense.

Could get a cheaper GPU and/or better monitor/headset (or even better seperate headphones + microphone).

Could the 3000 RAM be substituted for 2400 RAM and the extra money from it go towards maybe a better CPU or Graphics Card? Assuming that there's enough to make a jump in hardware. I'm also planning on helping him with the OS since I think I have an extra copy lying around that I could sell to him for less than what's listed on the pcpartpicker list for about $25

#2417 PC Build Thread in Hardware

So a friend of mine is looking to ditch playing on his laptop and build his own desktop. His budget is $1200 and would also like to play at 144hz. He originally had this pcpartpicker list but after a quick look at it I knew he could do better.

He doesn't plan on doing any overclocking or heavy content creation (the most that he's told me that he's going to do is speedpaint) and I would like to make sure that he's getting a good value out of his first PC build
