#393 PARIS TERRORIST ATTACK in Off Topic
ConcordiaKOBA"Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled."
9.29
One could say that the context when this was written is different but this book is supposed to be written by allah and is supposed to guide muslims lifestyles.
As someone who lives in a muslim country the overall mindset here about these attacks are that they deserve it because they killed muslims in Syria .
Uh, bud, from Muslim to Muslim, while yes that particular verse is from another period of time, you do remember that the Quran is not the definitive source of Islamic law. Yes, I said it. There are other Islamic law sources.

I'm not a muslim , you have to understand that those guys who kill themselves for allah are well versed in their religion , and it's really hard to believe that a book written by god himself is only valid for a set period of time .

#14 How's your internet for gaming? in Off Topic
ComangliasmoboI just wanted to get a feel for what kind of internet connections people use to play, and their experience with it in the context of gaming. It would be great to hear about steps you've taken to improve things and how they turned out, to help anyone else that may have similar issues.Gravitythis thread which has been made multiple times in the past ends with people showing off their fast speeds and/or a group of people complaining about bad internet speeds and bad internet companies
Alright so let's make this different then.

As someone who 1. Knows a decent amount about networking 2. Works for an ISP and 3. Lived in multiple service areas I think I can add a decent amount to the main point of this thread. Which I assume is "what's the ideal/optimal setup" or "what's the closest I could get in my service area to ideal/optimal".

By and far the most ideal connection is being plugged directly into a Fiber ONT on a GE port (to insure the lowest added ping) and have enough bandwidth to connect/report to a server (which is usually not that much unless it's a p2p connection which you might need some decent upload speeds if you happen to be host)

Sadly the majority of us are on either DOCSIS or DSL (maybe even bonded or VDSL), and even if you have Fiber it isn't usually realistic to plug directly into an ONT let alone know/make sure it's a GE port. So what is one to do?

DSL users. Make sure you're not on "interleave" also called Path 1 make sure it's "fast" also called Path 0

http://aya.sy/services/adsl/Demo/d-link2730/DLinkDSL-2730U_files/image007.jpg

sorry for the blurry image but this was the best I could find, in the 2nd section you see the "DSL Latency". Normally you would find this by plugging directly into your Modem and setting a static of 192.168.1.12 or 192.168.0.12 (the 12 just can't be 1) and then browse to 192.168.1.1 or 0.1 for some modems. Use whatever the default username/password it is and you can find that menu, or you could call in and ask and you might get someone who can help you. Either way if you're on interleave GET OFF OF IT you're adding A LOT of latency to your ping.

A note on bandwidth: DSL users if you max out your bandwidth in either the upstream or downstream you will increase your latency or worse completely lose connection because of it. It's really common for DSL users to max out their upload do to it being extremely low. (2.5Mb being best case scenario for Annex M users, or 1.2Mb or lower for just about everyone else on DSL)

DOCSIS users Honestly their's not much you can do other than make sure you have a DOCSIS 3.0 Modem, and you would only notice a difference if your Cable plants CMTS supported it. You could also minimize the number of splitters between you and your ISP as well ideally 0, as someone mentioned above having properly installed / new coaxial cable is definitely preferred and you would HAVE to contact your ISP if they're willing to actually do that; that is assuming you don't know how and that the poor power levels are from your end rather than your ISPs.

To find out if you're docsis 3 you'll have to google your modem/model.
Power levels can be found by logging into your modem.

Both DSL and DOCSIS users It's not uncommon for modems that have been around for awhile that when they start to break add a shit ton of latency to your ping. I've found numerous times of modems of the same brand and modem where 1 had significantly higher latency than the other (usually ones that have been actively used for a very long time), so make sure you get a new one every so often. In 1 case I was testing 2 Zhone 6211 DSL modems, one would ping a server that's about 1000ft away at about 2-3ms the other at best would do 40ms.

All users Use a wired connection, if you're behind a router make sure you're off a Gigabit port if possible, try the minimize the number of devices between you and the internet. (It really should be more than Modem -> Router -> Your PC)

help, what should I do here ?

#94 A way-too-detailed networking config in Customization
AdmirableI'm going to give it a go today because my connection is garbage and I have just been using max rates and cl_interp 0 all this time.

Is it advisable to have different interp settings for different weapons or just different classes?

e.g. switching between rl and sg

Dosen't matter ,you cant change interp unless you go spec .

#33 My FPS config in Customization
ComangliaKOBACitroMaindTested and saw that there's no difference if the no hats mod is on or off. Doesn't make a difference. Personal preference I'd say. ( using m0res fps config. ) Will check this out tommorow to see if its worth switching from m0res.nohats mod doesn't work on sv_pure 2 servers anymore after the last update that's why i guess .
I played a scrim just yesterday and it was working fine...

played a lobby doesn't work for me, Harbs said he is emailing tf2 team about it .
