How do you know that he is a f2p who can't do well? maybe he is really good at the game with only a minimal amount of hours.
I started competitive with maybe 150 or 200 hours in tf2 and it worked out fine for me

bearodactylIf you're that new to the game just do pugs and maybe lobbies. No point in clogging up the newbie mixes or pugs...
Newbie mixes were made so that you can learn comp I wouldn't tell someone to not do them just because they are really new that would completely defeat the purpose of newbie mixes
