When I went through the surgery they didn't exactly put me completely to sleep. I was "asleep", but I could still feel a lot of what was happening, and was aware that they were poking around in my head.
It hurt quite a bit. I remember grabbing the armrests a lot, and flinching when the poison got bad.
Overall, I made it out and wasn't too fucked up by the drugs (probably because they didn't give me enough which explains why I was able to feel everything).
Afterwards I used a warm oatmeal pack to sooth the pain. Unfortunately, no one told me that they sealed up the holes with stitches, and I was too dumb to realize this on my own. I thought the stitches were gauze stuck in my braces, and because of the anesthesia I still couldn't feel the damage I was doing when I started yanking them out.
Once I realized what I had done, I packed the area with gauze, and hoped it would just heal. I woke up the next morning, pulled out the gauze to find a big blood clot stuck to the gauze and a hole in my gums that I could feel. I had to go back and get new stitches put in later on that day.
Later on I had some trouble with food getting stuck in one of the holes and it got infected. Had to go back and have them blast all the crap out of there (it tasted disgusting), but after that everything went smoothly.
Still, the entire expropriation was nowhere as bad as the jaw surgery I went through a few years ago.
