S1 was ok. S2 was still ok but worse than S1. S3 was terrific.
FenryrI saw the episodes of the first avatar's story in s2 and just was sad. They ruined the idea of how bending came to be, where the people learned from the animals, like fire to dragon, air to bison, earth to mole, and water to moon spirit/fish. After those two, it just seemed like ok lemme just get to a lionturtle and be a master at any element with no training gg, let me get a spirit inside me so I can go to avatar state whenever. It's just a lot less developed overall, and ruins the mystical history that was explained in TLA.
Did you somehow watch different episodes than I did? Because IMO those two origin episodes were really the best of all of the lackluster second season.

The lionturtles didn't make people bending masters, they merely gave them the capacity to bend the elements. And pretty much all the humans who did get that power were pretty unskilled with it (except the proto-air nation seemed to be doing alright? it's been a while and I don't 100% remember). Whereas Wan actually went and trained with the spirit animals to learn to master all the elements, there's a bit where he's learning the dancing dragon from an actual dragon and so on. They do skim over it in a kind of training montage thing for the sake of time but it's all pretty much in line with AtLA, only the stuff with Raava/Vaatu and the spirit portals and all was new, but that also didn't exactly contradict anything either.
I mean there were a lot of problems with season 2 in general but the origin story wasn't one of them.
