#12 Simple Notepad++ Folding for cfg and res files in Customization
vermsimo 4script is better for cfgs

I wasn't trying to compete with 4Script in any way.

flamei haven't tried this but if you can get from

"HudPlayerHealth"
{
al;dkasldk
a;klsdja;lk
alkjdsalk
}

to

[+]"HudPlayerHealth"

I would be so happy.

Yup it does exactly that. Open up the example file and see how it works there! :)

dang thats fancy lookin.

Thanks for the link!

Not sure if you're talking about Sublime-Text or the actual color scheme... Either way, I have to agree, however my syntax-file wasn't supposed to look good but rather to be functional! It can easily be modified to have "pretty" colors.

Gemmellnesscomic sans font
nice

but yeah, this is a nice idea. personally i changed comments to green and added alias as a command

IK IK xD As I said I was just fooling around... Chose a random font just because, changed a few colors, added some sexy Italic and done.
The comments idea come from the way I arrange stuff on my CFGs.

I don't intend to do anything more to it, so if you add something you think its worth it you can make a PR. Or not, just fork it!

#1 Simple Notepad++ Folding for cfg and res files in Customization

I searched the forums for something of the sort and didn't find anything.
Today I decided to mess with the Notepad++ UDL v2.1.0.12 (User Defined Language). I made a simple syntax file for Notepad++ to fold code and comments.
I didn't "teach" it how to fold comments or which comments to fold, I used a notation to detect comments you want to fold.
It's really nothing too fancy, but it could be of use to someone editing HUDs, who currently doesn't use any syntax highlighting.
Also added some of the most common commands, like exec, bind, echo and some variables like tf_*, hud_* and fov_* for editing cfgs.
There is an example file along with the XML.
Repo here: GitHub

To install:

  1. Download the XML file
  2. Open Notepad++
  3. Click on the Language menu
  4. Click on Define your language and then Import

#7 TF2 Steam Guide in Customization

Sorry for the abscence, i was busy with Uni finals and also had problems with my ISP :/
Now that my break is starting i should start writing and post stuff on the repo. If you wanna keep track of the development check it out every few days! :D

Knuckles_When I finish my new cross hair font I plan on making both text and video tutorials for installing that I'll be glad to send your way

Ill be happy to add it to the guide! Thx! :D

KhanI think omni made quite an effort to get lots of tutorials onto huds.tf, could be worth linking to

if youre looking for guides on the non-technical aspects of tf2 (class+strategy guides), theres a huge list here: http://www.teamfortress.tv/thread/18435/collection-of-resources-tips-for-6v6

Ill look into it when it comes to the HUDs section! thanks for the link!

FireChichaMaybe it would be helpful to include a section/link to a guide on how to get the best mouse sens for you. Many guides overlook this and I think it influences a lot on your gameplay.Do you mean what cm/360 is best?
This guide should be "use the sens you like".

Tho you can include using raw input/no accel tho ( or if you want you can include the good accel tutorial that was around here a while ago )

I was talking to chicha and hes talking about guides/tutos/tips on getting the right sensitivity for you, not which sensitivity is the best!

pretty sure that's exactly what he said.
because you can't know 'your perfect sens' unless you've played around with it a bit. i've seen a simple method posted here before that would be suited just fine for a guide like this.

edit: i'd suggest adding a whole section specifically for mice.
because hardware, software/drivers and mouse settings are all important enough to have been mentioned.
and nobody has to be told what he should or shouldn't use, but i think it's fair to teach the basics and encourage them to try different things out.
because that guy with 400 fps and good net settings will still mess up or perform inconsistently if his mouse is crap or his settings are way off.

+1 for the initiative Silky

Im about to start the section on the mouse settings but im only gonna cover the TF2 console commands and maybe add a guide that i found helpful myself, "Aim" by RaZiel (from the Wolf:ET scene)

PS: Thanks for your support! :D

#1 TF2 Steam Guide in Customization

Hi guys,
As the title suggests, im thinking about making a steam guide (and have it on GitHub with all the text and links in .txt) about TF2. I've seen lots and lots of people (even willing to get into competitive) that don't know how to set and customize TF2 and settle with what they have, that's where the idea came from, and i want them to get into this great game and break the barriers they might have so they can enjoy it more.
I dont want it to be a linear guide and closed to "this" or "that" subject, i want it to include all there is to know about TF2!
This is a bit hard for me to explain what i want the guide to be, and maybe some of you think there's no point in making it since you can just google or search here on the TFTV forums and that's not wrong, but googling and searching forums takes time and too much reading for little profit, so the guide should be some sort of index, pointing out where to look for what you want to know.
I started writing last friday and have some work done (close to nothing really), regarding the first console commands everyone should know and recommended mouse settings.
I want to include other subjects like:

    *FPS configs
    *customizing (HUDs, hitsounds, crosshairs,...)
    *A complete list with all usable console commands and explanations
    *Scripting
    * (Add more subjects here)

More lines should be added to the list as suggestions come in!

Here is the link for GitHub: https://github.com/SiIky/TF2-Steam-Guide
As i said i did close to nothing so far, but it's a start!

K, so, now, since this guide is for the TF2 Community, it should also be designed and have what the community wants! Post your thoughts and suggestions! I'll be gladly accepting help, so if you are willing to help or wanna add something to the guide, comment here (or on my steam profile) and add me on steam (should be faster if you comment on my steam profile since i dont login here everyday)!

Cheers,
-Silky

UPDATE: Made the guide available as some sort of site. You can check it out here: http://siiky.github.io/TF2-Steam-Guide.
For now the site is really simplistic because it's been ages since I last used HTML.
