#38 Your summer moments in Off Topic

Played the least TF2 than past summers. Joined a coding bootcamp. Got jumped by a geese. Bought a grill. Hung out with old e-pals for a week. KBBQ'd for 3 hours. Traveled to another coast and around my backyard. Caught a zillion fishies with consistency. Many firsts.

#97 Is in-game shit talk a good or a bad thing? in Off Topic

My observation and opinion of shit talking.

When communicating through text over the internet or video game. The words typed(and sometimes said) will oftenly be taken out of context. The dialogue going on between two parties can go from playful to mean depending on many factors such as emotions, personalities, cultural norms, and values.

Frankly, it's just not as easy to tell what a person is conveying through text than face-to-face.

When party misconstrues a statement from another party it usually starts a downward negative spiral of an online relationship, aka "talk shit get hit". And it snowballs until one party stops before the shit-talk is interpreted as truth by multiple people in a community and then it becomes really bad as it spreads and spreads. Due to the lack of conversational interests and passions from most "hardcore" gamers.

An extreme but common example of 2 low/mid strangers looking to get into comp
Dude A wallshots Dude B in a pub while suspended only 2 feet in the air
Dude A admirably says: nice shot, you're really good at that lol(he actually thought it was an airshot and has never seen one)
Dude B interprets as sarcasm and gets offended because he's played hours of MGE and considers wallshots simple.
Dude B, a well respected person of the TF2 community retaliates by talking mad shit in Dude A's lft thread off personal rumors(racist, sexist, drug user, criminal, etc) he dug up off other online people.
Dude A wonders why Dude B would do that and tries to communicate to come to a resoulution.
Dude B ain't havin it and refuses to listen.
Dude A gets upset after people keep asking him if the rumors were true and refers to the "talk shit get hit" principle.

That's why a large number of the people that go to TF2 lans tend to not take any initiative to meet one another. Grow up, take responsibility and be willing to forgive. The sad realization is that the social norms in real life are crafted by extroverts as they tend to be doing most of the socializing. Introverts are way to complex and less willing to communicate unless certain factors are met. And honestly, it's probably because of dull unfullfiling lives or trying to escape unfavorable situations. People come from all different viewpoints.

I generally try not to shit talk but unfortunately you gotta flex sometimes to show the fake ass niggas whats up. Relax, take it easy, sleep on it. Disrespecting and slandering people ain't cool.

#57 TF2 SoCal Series #2 in LAN Discussion

Holyshit that was a blast. Everyone was hella chill and got to meet some of the friendliest faces of TF2. Easily one of the more inviting lans I've ever been to with some of the most prettiest beaches nearby. Definitely worth the trip if you've never been to SoCal.

Big props for Oomba for staying open late and b4nny for throwing a cool lan. Also dashnerr and raysfire for throwing an awesome stream experience for the viewers haha

#81 TF2 ISLAND in Off Topic

Buick - Crafty with things, would probably be able to make fishing rods and weapons.
CJ - His parents probably contracted the entire coast guard to rescue.
Flame - Can use a coconut as weapon.
dchow - The type of person to bring seeds on a plane.
iFY - Fall guy incase anyone's murdered. Nigerian prince and heir to the island throne.

We'd take 1 or 2 days trying to make fishing rods and weapons out of trees. iFY and CJ scavenge the next 2 days(assuming no one's hostile) while fish are accumulated. Overtime, we own the entire shoreline and recruit people to become fishermen by offering fish and weed. If they don't accept we ask(waterboard) to see their leader to recruit or ambush. In the event of a ambush Flame would just run in with a spear while iFY finishes off stragglers in the dark. Given Flame's build he should come away unscathed 9/10 times. We become a communist government and take over the island.

CJ just sits there and looks out for his parent's yacht.

EDIT: Just saw the 4 person limit. Nvm, CJ's cut.

#187 Emotional Experiences in Off Topic

I'm 5. Mom cheated on dad. Dad has anger issues. Dad holds mom off balcony at 3am. Wakes me up and asks if he should drop her.
Few months later, they become separated. I don't even know whats going on, walk in on my mom and her future husband making out.

I'm 10. Parents divorced by now, dad's a workaholic and has no idea how to cope with everything. Marries an extremly younger stepmom. Tell's me she's a elementary school teacher(lol). My mom got custody of my sister and I went with dad. Since dad's a workaholic, I grow up alone off ramen and occasional fast food.

I'm 12. Dad strangles me after I try to lie to him about being sick for school. Step mom turns into a complete lunatic irationally yelling and screeching about everything, even to this day. Stepmom adds emotional and psychological abuse ontop of dad's physical. Dad completely surrenders to her side upon everything over the years. I recede my life into PC games.
Stepmom and dad frequently tells me they don't love me and wish they kept my sister instead.

I'm 16. Dad gets thyroid cancer. Goes to China for treatment. It's senior year and I realized I never got my volunteer hours for graduation. Signed up for school's work program and lied about working for my dad, skipped half my classes to take a bus/rail an hour away and back for the 2nd semester. I proudly graduate with just a few days to spare, neither parents were there except my aunt and a few cousins. Dad comes back with a few gashes in his neck but completely fine.

2014, mom gets thyroid cancer as well. She doesn't tell anyone. I coincidentally tell her I didn't want to continue university anymore during a meetup at a dentist appointment and felt her heart sank.

Early 2015, sister tells me mom had cancer and is ok.
