AlfieI managed to get mine to work, I put a copy of the old gameinfo.txt I happened to have saved in steamapps/username/team fortress 2/tf/

sorry for necro but did you delete the file? I'm trying to compile captions in my lang but the .dat file never generates
MightySolved the problem, it was EVEHud. Any other HUDs you guz recommend?
Why was it EVEHud specifically
