Thanks for the info, wrech. I edited the thing to match accordingly.
To trace Street Hoops eSport’s history, we have to travel back in time to eight seasons ago, when the battle for first place was still fought on LAN, and before the time of modern titans such as RONIN and froyotech.
At that time, 20b was simply a humble open team, an offspring of the UGC Platinum Highlander team of the same name. The team was lead by twin scouts paragon and deadbolt, with Skyrolla on demoman, crespi on medic, vacationer on pocket, and controversial player ash on roamer. Despite it being the first season of ESEA for most of their players, the team fought their way to a 2nd place finish. However, due to DDoS attacks and server issues, the team had to play the grand finals off client, and lost both maps to their opponent, italian stallions.
The team’s breakout performance impressed many, and ESEA saw fit to promote them to participate in the first season of ESEA TF2-Main. With a new medic, cozen, and Luzzu coming in to replace vacationer, the team shot to second place in the regular season. Joining them in the playoffs would be Rent-a-Homies, lead by serv0, and Rinkuing with Rinku, lead by infamous sandbagger bl4nk.
The 20b squad had already beaten the latter, but the team they met during playoffs was a far cry from the Rinkuing with Rinku they’d met on metalworks. After a crushing loss against Rent-a-Homies in week 6, bl4nk decided to take it to the next level, and brought in clockwork as well as dummy, two players who would go on to win invite the very next season with froyotech.
Street Hoops managed to edge out a win over Rinkuing with Rinku, but bl4nk’s squad didn’t give up, pushing through the lower bracket for their rematch against 20b in the grand finals. This time, however, the sandbaggers came out on top, winning both maps to take the title.
Street Hoops’ third season was their invite debut, and they wanted to make it count. Two massive pickups in duwatna and grape pulled them into a solid fourth seed, over rivals Rent-a-Homies. Making LAN in their first season of invite may have seemed accomplishment enough for lesser men, but 20b wasn’t satisfied. In a surprise upset, Street Hoops toppled 2nd seed Exertus eSports in the lower bracket, knocking the team out of the tournament, and bringing themselves to 3rd place.
Over the offseason, Street Hoops’ combo was massacred yet again as froyotech stole duwatna to replace dummy, and Exertus, now eLevate, stole cozen for TheFragile. While 20b found replacements in experienced scout cyzer and grape’s long-time medic buddy ninjanick, the team couldn’t repeat their feat from the previous season, coming in fourth in both the regular season and playoffs.
Come Season 18, and 20b was, for once, safe from roster issues. On the other hand, their perennial rivals eLevate looked shaky, and Classic Mixup had disbanded. For once, things were looking up for Street Hoops, and they had high expectations for their performance at LAN. Despite that, eLevate toppled them out at LAN once again, and the team was relegated to 3rd place for a second time.
With whispers of a Mixup reform in the air, grape left the team, and Street Hoops found a replacement in up-and-coming pocket showstopper. Though many had doubts about the pickup, showstopper proved he truly belonged in the top of invite, and the team made playoffs for the fourth time. b4nny, however, had malicious plans for the team, and pulled ash from his childhood home to reside as froyotech’s new pocket. Shaken, Street Hoops hastily pulled together a roster for the playoffs, with alfa coming in to replace ash and cozen standing in for ninjanick. This roster did not perform as well as expected, and 20b was ultimately beaten by The Five Dollar Club.
Season 20 came around, and the twins deadbolt and paragon left to start a career in CS:GO. Without them, Street Hoops was no longer Street Hoops, and the team rebranded as Team SoloUber. With xalox on demo, grape on roamer, and alec on scout, TSU ploughed their way into playoffs, picking up wins from top-seeded Ascent and rivals woodpig.
In playoffs, the team initially lost to froyotech, but gained a forfeit win from woodpig to advance into the lower bracket finals. There, they faced b4nny and his crew once again, but this time, things were different. Class switch ups by froyotech allowed TSU to gain an early lead, and ash decided he’d had enough. In possibly the most shocking move in the history of TF2, ash left the roster mid-game, forcing froyotech to rely on seymour.
Though the replacement scout played well, the day ultimately went to Team SoloUber in a historical golden cap. TSU had finally broken into second place, and were about to head into the grand finals against Ascent. This would not turn out well for showstopper and his gang. Whether it was due to lack of practice, choking from pressure or simply being outclassed, the TSU squad was crushed thoroughly by Ascent in two maps, taking only one round in the entire ordeal.
Team SoloUber’s final season was looking to be an incredible one. They’d re-picked up duwatna, matured over his time on froyotech, and many had them pegged as the team most likely to topple Ascent. The season spoke otherwise, however, as the team dropped maps to a revitalized froyotech and up-and-coming team EVL Gaming. In week 4, froyotech, clearly not having learnt their lesson, stole yet another player from TSU, this time ninjanick. With this, grape dropped out of the team, and TSU picked up two old faces: ash and cozen. Returning with these players was their old name, Street Hoops eSports.
The name change represented a huge turning point in 20b’s season, and the team took both rematches against froyotech and EVL. In playoffs, the team was knocked into the lower bracket by RONIN, previously Ascent. There, they joined EVL Gaming, who’d lost against froyotech, and handily defeated the squad of IM winners. In the meantime, froyotech had lost against RONIN, and in similar fashion to the previous season, Street Hoops eSports were about to face off against the team in the lower bracket finals.
The match was cancelled. Extenuating family circumstances had Street Hoops lacking their full roster, and without any alternatives, the team was forced to forfeit the match, bringing their playoff dreams to an end.
Over the offseason, the team disbanded, and so ended the legacy of Street Hoops eSports.
