New week (7), same old unbroken curse. Get 'em scheduled
So couple quick things about making friends:
1st. Most people don't like messaging first. Getting over THAT is the biggest hurdle most people face. Messaging people first shows that you're interested in talking to them. Do they engage with the convo most of the time? Does it feel like they enjoy talking to you? Then they probably do. Don't assume they don't want to talk to you unless they say it or don't respond for over 4 weeks. Also it's fine to just send a "Hey, how's it going? Hope you're doing well" People like to think others are thinking of them. It doesn't need to spark into a longer convo.
2nd. Best way to make friends with people is to be friendly. What does that mean? Act like you've been friends for a while already. Don't like hit them with your deepest interests, but act like you've been friends for 4 months already. Say Hey to them when you see them. Message first and just message to see how they are.
Hopefully this helps. And if you're biggest issue is wondering if they find you annoying, then you've already conquered the first big hurdle :)
Alright, after much debate between admins and a community poll, playoff structure has been decided.
Advanced playoffs will be Top 8, Single Elimination!
Last day for match results to be submitted is March 15th, so play your forfeits before then to receive full match points.
New week (6), new koth map, make sure you're playing on koth_clearcut_b14c and not another version
The hip thing to say would be PugChamp but most of those pugs are generally invite level, but you might be able to find other level of pugs there. Most people do in houses hosted out of their discords. TF2Center is still active too
Oh yeah, RGL hosts there own pugs too, but those are generally 7s or No Restriction 6s
Depends on the skill level. Most top adv and invite teams scrim from 10 EST onwards, but teams below that level generally scrim sunday to thursday 9:30 pm EST to before 12 pm EST. Most matches are generally between Tuesday and Thursday for 6s.
Highlander is different. Matches are always Monday at 9:30 EST, pre-game is 8:30 EST. HL scrims Saturday Sunday 8:30 and 9:30. This doesn't change no matter the skill level.
New week, new matches (5) are available to schedule, so have at 'em. Other news: I've gotten answers from most of the team leaders telling me which playoff structure their team prefers. If I haven't talked to you and you lead a team, or this is the first time you've heard about it at all, I'm polling the teams to determine what the playoff structure for adv should be. The options are top 8 single elimination or top 4 double elimination. No matter which is chosen, playoff matches will be played Best Of 3, with the maps being determined by pick/ban. I won't be making a decision on this until February 17th so you've got time to debate. I'll also ask the team leaders again closer to the date just to see if anyone has changed their minds. Happy fragging
And with 13 mins to spare matches (4) are released, go get 'em scheduled. And as a reminder teams are able to schedule matches whenever, even into future weeks. All you have to do is agree to the date in matches comms and if it isn't auto scheduled, message me and I'll manually schedule it.
boxcardoes the IM curse carry over to advanced ?
At the moment it has, with Fluffy Echo Fan Club having lost 1 match in the regular season. Currently the 2 undefeated teams, The Agency and SpireIQ Technologies, are facing each other on product on Sunday. So we'll see who continues to be undefeated and who doesn't.
Oh and matches will be released tonight before midnight, had a lot of schoolwork so I couldn't get to them until today
Another week (3), another set of matches released, go get 'em scheduled
Week 2 matches have been released, get them scheduled
Week 1 matches are out, go schedule your matches
Finished Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson. 3rd book in his Stormlight Archive series. Hard to describe Oathbringer without going back to The Way of Kings. It's a fantasy book and series that I'd recommend most fantasy fans should start, but if the density of the story is too much, then just drop it cuz it never slims itself. Super good, but super dense. Not a book I want to reread, but something I am def happy about having read. The series so far is really interesting, but I'm not super excited about what happens next because of said dense-ness and other spoiler things.
I think I started the series in 2018, but I read the Powdermage Trilogy and finished the seqeul series Gods of Powder and Blood by Brian McClellan in 2019 and they are super good. The first series basically asks "What if Napoleon was the direct reason the French Revolution happened? And what if we made it so that he could snort gunpowder like cocaine and turn muskets into modern sniper rifles?" It then continues on where you don't kill the king without major consequences happening. The sequel series continues in the world was the original trilogy, but 10 years later. McClellan is a student of Sanderson and you can definitely feel that from his writing. Highly recommend it.
Otherwise, I became a history major so I've had to read a bunch of history books. And while fairly interesting, most are boring as hell if you don't have to read them.
