What does a PUG group need to be successful?

you need to hit the balance between goofy and serious, most people don't want to play pugs that are just troll fests, but people also don't want to try as hard as they can. at lower levels you need to make sure that skill disparity doesn't get out of hand because lower level players are going to stop coming into pugs that have higher level players there, because it is not fun to get stomped in pugs. you also need competent people running them who can ensure the above two things are managed properly, and then find people who want to play in them.
