Have you tried Surf iT though? Ping doesn't affect surfing (since the map is just a static object), unless there's bunnyhopping involved.

I've always found anime to be a good time sink because of the volume of episodes.

Cowboy Bebop and Initial D are probably my favourites.

QI and The Ricky Gervais Show are also decent non-fiction (or at least somewhat based in fact).
