edit: never figured this out, but i used the other method of just going in offline mode on steam and doing "hl2 -game tf " in the cmd

Ok so i finally managed to compile the file, i've been doing this wrong the entire time but for everyone who is wondering and having the same issue i replaced the two .dat and .txt file under tf/resource for my custom .txt, then instead of using the SDK's source2009 folder like the tutorial says, i used the Team Fortress 2\bin captioncompiler.exe. So you don't really need to use Source SKD tools to compile.

the respawn time on the match hud just randomly goes down instead of staying on the player icons and i cannot for the life of me figure out why

edit: nevermind figured it out, i put these lines in my hudanimation txt
