I don't see any harm what so ever in trying what robin and valve are suggesting.

The fact that they reached out and are attempting to do something for competitive tf2 play whether it's 6v6 or highlander is great, even if it is on their own terms.

Who knows what will turn into, it may turn out to be huge or a big flop, but we will never know until we try and support what this robin guy wants to do.

To go against what valve and robin are trying to do is a HUGE mistake. We don't get many opportunities like this.

And to say regular 6v6 play will die is just pure paranoia, regular 6v6 play is going no where, whether valve does something with comp or not.

I suggest getting a job with your buddies and little supervision, like landscaping work. My first job was really fun cause I got it with my two other buddies and there were a bunch of people from our high school there also ,I worked on the greens crew for a golf course. All we did was smoke weed all day, rake bunkers, rake up leaves, sleep in the woods, smoke more weed, lay down sod, fix irrigation, build ramps to drive our toro loaders off of, take off the governors for the loaders so we could go faster, smoke more weed, try to sneak beers on the course, rake more bunkers, drive around, sleep in the woods, smoke weed, try to hit on the chicks who drove around the beverage carts, try to scam drinks off them, smoke more weed, sleep and go home. Was so much fun.

The fastest way to get this rolling and show results to robin and valve and give him what he's asking for is to contact the fellas @ tf2lobby.com asap and tell them about this conversation with valve and have them code an add on for tf2lobby for this ban/pick item game mode in lobbies.

This is the path of least resistance. tf2lobby has the most number of users who are "first time comp" players than IRC and there are more people playing tf2lobby for highlander and 6's than on IRC, this will get you some genuine results from a new player stand point. Someone needs to contact them asap.

If the guys at tf2lobby are looking to get compensated to put in the time and energy to do this it would be a smart move for someone(tf.tv monopolization) to pay them to do it in return for shares and to be a part owner of tf2lobby.com (maybe even put some tf.tv adds up on tf2lobby.com). However if the guys at tf2lobby.com were smart they would do it for free.

Question for Sal: Do you think if someone were to develop a tf2lobby.com style website involving all the criteria Robin is asking for, valve would be prepared to pay for the data gathered from this website or quite possibly buy the rights to the website and implement it with valve?

Is Robin expecting the community/someone to do this work and develop a platform like this so then he can waltz in look at the results see if it works or doesn't work and then go make a knock off of it that belongs to valve?.

Or would valve be willing to purchase a website that does this and shows good results?
