chugstask manager to see if any processes related to steam are running. Had this problem a few times and just ending them and trying again helped.

Just checked, nothing there pointed to your fix. Thanks a lot for giving advice though!

Thanks for replying, but that doesn't look like my problem. My steam kinda just doesn't go further through the startup process than the "connecting to steam account..." screen. After that, the startup just die with no error message or anything.
