#544 Valve and Competitive TF2 in News
RoyceI don't really see anything of value coming out of matchmaking. 6s lobbies already really suck and that's with people who kind of know what they're doing on 6s maps with 6s whitelists. I have no faith in Valve balancing 100+ unlocks (if Valve never hired Icefrog, Dota 2 would probably be an imbalanced mess). There are already enough players for leagues to exist and I doubt we're going to explode CSGO style and suddenly have international lans every few months. /pessimisticrant

6s lobbies really suck because everyone throws in 6s lobby. In a matchmaking system where people have to earn ranks and could rise higher people would treat it seriously just like in csgo

MonkeySuitWhat does esea offer without lan? If you play tf2 for money there are a lot of better ways to spend your time.

the only place to play good NA 6s

dashnergargleburrymaybe instead of having a lan for esea this season we can instead host a tournament in a community lan for the teams that want to be funded to compete at i55.
Assuming that you're referring to a tournament hosted at i55: this is certainly an option and one that I support the most. ESEA-Invite being online presents a unique opportunity since travel costs are no longer a factor. Remember that iSeries typically has a prize pool of $7,500 USD approx. If you go there fully covered and finish in the top 3 you stand to make money for your trip.

im talking about instead of doing the i55 na qualifiers online we can set it up at a local lan around july. this would allow lan ping and fps to be a factor as it would in i55 lan and could make a huge difference on the competitiveness and the outcome of the qualifier since some teams(elevate, classic mixup) play very different on lan then they would online.

RaytekNo class limits will break the game almost as much as no item bans will

Do you really want to queue into a game where everyone refuses to play medic and your team is filled with snipers? How about 3 Quickfix medics with 3 BFB scouts?

There is going to be extremely little communication in these games. Barely anyone on your team is going to use a microphone (ingame voice is kinda shit to begin with) and people will not have the minimal game-sense required to enjoy 6v6. Most of the people playing in these matchmaking games will be very bad new/pub players.

Should make it highlander only with UGC maps/whitelist. There is a reason why 5cp doesn't work in pubs, things like payload and attack/defend offer clear objectives your team can contribute towards. You can read more about Valve's pub design philosophy in some map making documentation.

If Valve wants a healthy competitive scene their focus should be spreading awareness through the in-game stream lists as well as main menu popup/notifications directing people towards the already established systems that actually work like TF2Center.

if i wanted to play hl id play a fucking pub

Mr_OwlrAz3people paid for the season already
it wont be this season

If there isn't going to be another season of tf2 after this season i feel like most people will just quit esea. Most people have goals like me for instance, I wanted to make it to invite before quitting. If there isn't a possible way for me to do that then why even bother playing a next season? Plus since its a confirmed last season everyone would be throwing and no one would try there would be no competitive spirit.

dflamethe fact that this team full of hackers and ddosers is trying to play in invite is very cute. you guys should keep trying every season! i'm actually surprised they tried for invite this season considering last season they tried open and died before week 1 haha.

i dont think there going to play there probs just trolling half there players havnt even played in months

either that or strat+others gave them there accounts so bullet wouldn't have to bother with the communities approval on there team.

its best to just leave them be the only thing that hurts us is that we lost an invite roster that could of actually gone to a team that deserved it, they will probably die even if they do play.
