SAAM_Those servers pop up from time to time. They're full for 2 days and then no one joins the server because no one is already there so the server just dies.
It would certainly take work and effort by the owner and they'd have to want to make it work. But just an idea!
Using it for scrims for teams is a fantastic idea, I thought I'd pitch in another idea though.
The mapping community is huge and people make fantastic maps that don't always make it on many servers, so it's tough to get feedback on them and whatnot. You could make your server concentrate primarily on custom maps of all types and formats, as a place for map makers to get feedback and to get their maps really played. It's something that's needed a lot more than you may think. You could go and keep up to date on the contests they are constantly running on tf2maps, and pick 4-6 of them or whatever each time, and publicize your server there, on reddit, here, wherever.
I figure you'll likely go the comp/scrims route, but just wanted to toss this in here too. Maybe someone else can see it and get inspired with their own server.
Hng I own one and yes, I'm fairly confident that's the cheapest you'll find it for. In my experience over the years, Logitech webcams tend to have a low price that they'll occasionally go for and not deviate much from that until they're replaced with better models.
Seeing REAL work on the demoman that is not only extensive but seems to have involved a fair bit of thought is VERY encouraging. This interests me a lot more than "we added damage rampup to the Stickybomb Launcher, bye"
How the changes actually play, I guess we'll wait and see.
Two things that jump out to me are overuse of profanity and some repetition.
Yes we all use profanity in our everyday language, most likely, but I think that needs to stay out of YouTube content. Some may disagree but it's not very professional. I'm not a prude or anything, I have a dirty mouth. But when I view YouTube content I don't think of people saying fuck over and over again as positive unless that's somehow their gimmick.
Toward the end it seems you're restating your point in the same words. Be the best you you can be! Valid point but I feel like it was said 3-4 times.
I know it's more about the message and less of the medium, but I'd also suggest you may be missing a larger point in what you were trying to communicate. It felt like you're giving this magical, almost undeserved credit to "famous" people or whatnot.. just for being who they are. "They're obviously where they are for a reason and you can never be them" (paraphrased). I think an important point is that in fact, people who are successful tend to be in that position because they worked their asses off, and perhaps had some luck along the way. They're also probably doing what they love - so there may have been a nice tie-in there to say keep doing what you love, do what your passion is, be yourself and work hard and perhaps some day you will be where these people are as well.
I think you do a good job and am sorry to hear that you did not get what you wanted with this audition. Keep at it.
I used to do this exact thing. I had a toll-free number for interaction, I had slardel, Fragile and Lange on before I put it on hiatus.
Definitely a good idea though. Certainly anyone that wants to do it, I'm offering assistance as well if you'd like it.
KevinIsPwnGetawhaleOne thing that upsets and concerns me is the number of players who are latching on to this and Lange's thing as being "proof" that TF2 is dying or competitive is dying. I've had random people asking me if TF2 is dying, and that concerns me.It's just people who have never experienced a lull in the game like those of us who have been around a bit longer. I've been asked this on stream a lot and the answer is as simple as "no lol, this happens every year or so"
Certainly if it's the opinion of some that the game is dying, that's their opinion. But people are taking this as fact.
I don't think very highly of Reddit (at all) but there are thousands of players over there, or who knows how many. When stabby does an AMA (that gets 1200 upvotes in 10 hours) and one of the highest answers features him saying "Yes, TF2 is dead" that's a huge chunk of (very impressionable) people who will then just accept that as being true. That's where my problem lies. Say what you will about /r/tf2 but that's an enormous audience.
WARHURYEAHPeople had these thoughts way before Lange posted that video, difference is that like Lange, people more recognised in the community are venting their thoughts on popular platforms instead of just in a mumble with a few other people.
This doesn't mean that comp is actually dying, I think this means that people are starting to realise that if you put a lot of effort in to the game you aren't going to really see as much of a return as you used to.
My main point being.. yes perhaps many of our long-standing players are leaving. They are. They're getting sick of the game after 7 years, and understandably so. But there are thousands of potential players out there who may be able to come and be the new generation, the new top comp players. I'd hate to see newer players get discouraged because of constant declarations that "comp is dead". I think it's far from being that simple, and that's an unfair way to put it.

downpouryeah, fooling around with dumb unlocks doesnt make me have any more fun with the game.
I'm sure your input is noted and appreciated
downpourpersonally, its not unlocks that made me lose interest in playing tf2.
Was it maybe.. that you weren't having fun anymore?
Because I think for a lot of players, that's what it is
I think a ton of people are really close-minded about this.
Players are having fun with unlocks. Players in comp losing interest in the game is making them leave. We're trying something new.
There's lots of talk about "Open whitelist makes game AIDS" and other stuff, but a lot of this seems to be just talk - it's not really based on anything real. It's easy to just SAY these things, but.. it's been rare that we've tried something like this with real, high level competitive teams who are really trying to win.
This is an experiment. Maybe it'll fail, maybe not.
I guess all I would recommend is try to have an open mind. Let's listen to the players and see what they think, let's see how enjoyable it is to watch. Let's all work together and see what happens.
