i finally worked up enough courage to cry in front of the pregnant woman who frequents my gym
Since conductor isn't available 24/7 to baby my retarded ass around with demo jumping and rollouts, I'm looking for a "jump buddy" for help with all kinds of jumping. Re-learning regular ol' rocket jumping would also be a plus. Practicing the motions in local servers isn't drilling them into my thick skull and I don't know what I'm doing wrong that it's not working. I've been spoiled by the games I played during my hiatus because getting to the fightin' wasn't so much a problem as shootin' the mans was, and I already had trouble with my rollouts when I was last really active in 6s. I'm gonna put any looking I was doing on hold until I can go fast here, too.
Any real help would be appreciated.

57R4c3So lately I've been trying out this mumble thing but I noticed it's quite distracting when I want to play a bit seriously.
Do you have ADHD?
So yesterday was a little ridiculous because of a DDOS attack on one of the NY NFO servers that was hosting my mumble. Apparently there's been some script kiddie randomly hitting NY NFO servers, but I've moved the mumble back to Dallas.
Since we played Sunshine and Coalplant yesterday, we'll be hitting the ground running with Highlands. For the second map, we could always play Edifice, Coalplant, or Sunshine again. I don't think there are any new maps besides the fixes to Snakewater that we can play.

So I have no idea what that was about, but we're back.
In my poverty, I have a netbook I use for general on-the-go work and some games. However, this thing is clockin' in the years. I hopped onto newegg to do price checks and see what stock they had, and there were four items left with three being out of stock. Are netbooks being phased out in the face of tablets? I have an ASUS TF-300T tablet but I enjoy a certain number of features that netbooks have (mainly a physical harddrive, usb ports, and some semblance of airflow), plus I'd rather spend the money on that instead of half the price just to get a keyboard dock with one usb port for the ol' TF-300T.
One of my friends and one of my professors from my old CC picked up a Microsoft Surface each and I was thinking about getting one of those but that pricetag is a bit too much for me (but with what I was shown and what I tried on it, I think it's justified). I'm not interested in a Chromebook because I'd like to have something I can horse around on.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I was just gonna bump the old thread but it got deleted. Don't know why out of all the threads in GenDiscussion mine got the dick, but even though I don't have my server anymore Hooky's got a server for us to use and we in this.
Tonight's maps are:
koth_coalplant_b2
cp_sunshine_a4b
cp_badwater_a2_final
cp_highlands_a5
Repeat of cp_edifice_test2

I'm thinking about splitting the maps up between Friday and Saturday - two tonight, two tomorrow night, and leaving edifice as a "but x people still want to pug". We'll be starting around 9:30 or 10 EST and going on until god knows when. These will most likely slow down or stop after today because of the upcoming season in a few days (10 to be more accurate).

TheManWithNoName2sy_morphiendIf you're not playing you shouldn't have an opinion.
...and 6s players wonder why viewers and players are streaming to HL
Ok no. I am so sick of this bullshit. I don't know who started this "EVERY ILL-INFORMED PERSON MUST HAVE AN OPINION" thing or why it keeps happening but it's not just limited to TF2 anymore and it's legitimately getting me frustrated.
Let me break it down real simple like - if you have no experience in any sort of competitive play, you aren't allowed to have an opinion on it. Not because of "DRR I HAET NEW PEOPLE LET ME BE AS BIG OF AN ASSHOLE AS POSSIBLE" but because you have ZERO EXPERIENCE. The only knowledge you possess is that of a spectator. Your scope of the scene is limited to that of whoever is being focused on from the STV or stream. You've never watched a flank, never gone for an airshot (FINE CONDUCTOR A MIDDIE), never collapsed onto last, never blown a rollout, never dropped an uber, never wiped a team, and so on. You simply just don't know about why the way competitive games are played the way they are.
I honestly don't care which format you play. I don't particularly care for Highlander after seeing what it has become and what it has brought to the table but it's fun for others. However, if you don't know the meat and potatoes of Highlander from experiencing it, you aren't allowed to comment on it. I don't know who stabbystabby is nor do I know why he's relevant at all, but I do know that he's an active player. He has a role in the actual gameplay and can contribute an informed opinion about Highlander spy play. I know Munch - he's a Highlander pyro player who wants to play 6s. He knows a lot about Highlander play from experiencing it. He knows how and why pyro is relevant in HL - he is well informed. As a spectator, you've only seen gameplay happen. It's the Robin Walker effect - you have no idea what just happened or why it worked but god damn it looked cool as fuck. That's all you are informed on when you're just someone who watches streams and sits in 24/7 2fort and trade servers: you know what looks cool and what doesn't. Your opinion is relevant for streamer feedback.
This kind of mentality is exactly what plagues FPS games nowadays. I remember playing in the Hawken Alpha and someone on the forums straight up said that being able to change your graphics settings was cheating because you'd be able to see people hiding in shadows. I shouldn't have to explain why this is completely ill-informed. This is the viewpoint of someone who has never played a game of Hawken before and actually seen the design for the maps or gotten a feel for the movement of the mechs.
At the end of the day, you aren't entitled to an opinion not because people are looking to be massive elitist assholes, but because you have zero knowledge or first-hand experience of 6s and/or Highlander gameplay.
pine_beetleI take my shirt off and flex my biceps every time I talk about video games.
Give 'em the ol' left bicep.
Online, I guess pride is something I feel. All I know is that playing games for competition and sport has lead to some fun things for me, the Shazbowl being the absolute biggest thing I've ever participated in that was something more than a marginal success. People still recognize me sometimes in various games and in TF2 pubs, it's a nice feeling. I've also learned a lot from people who have played competitive games, mostly here, and I wouldn't have known them otherwise if I didn't play. In real life, I just tell people that video games are one of my hobbies, both in playing and collecting. I've had people unironically brag to me about being actual MLG pros in Halo and Gears of War when I've told people I like FPS games so I just keep my mouth shut
.
kevi guess but at least it's better than being a black weeaboo
