on this topic i'll recommend "the art of learning" by josh waitzkin – especially if you like chess or martial arts
if we can pinpoint what font it is we can easily see the kind of license it was released under. chances are you'll be able to release a hud with licensed text files without any legal trouble. problems arise when we start taking into account usage, particularly the kind that generates income. if the hud were to be released the legal onus will befall on the users; not the creators.
professional thoughts aside; all this is moot because this is a boxes and text mod for a 15 year old cartoon video game literally nobody is going to care

#2 comes off as really dismissive but it's true. we really don't care and you should do what you like. don't feel bad about being bad at games because that is not the point – it's about having fun. if you go around and stop doing things you enjoy because you are not "good" at them then that reveals a deep character flaw that you should spend some time thinking about because it's not going to go away simply by doing other things.
i don't make plugins but i'm pretty sure a novice can make this happen
thats why I recommend using the cvar instead of the launch options

update: i've built together my pc from the suggestions here. other than some minor gpu coil whine I love it so thanks to everyone who helped. :D
