regardless of the ethical issues, it's such a lazy shortcut. priority should always be on making the child understand WHY they shouldn't do something, and helping them develop empathy in the process
worst: /r/overwatch

where's the love for ELEMENT? it's the Money Trees of this album and it's getting slept on. kendrick's best take on a soulful hook since gkmc, and that third chord change underneath is extremely fucking tasty
they just take a little time to charge up don't worry about it
Pendjibanged half the Star Wars cast.
Pendjisome health issues aren't all that surprising.
you're gonna live forever then
best singles of the year are One Dance and Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales
knuck flat textures, mono color player models. No cosmetics so we can get actual good frames. After you've built the whole thing the game will be dead anyway and we can play it as a fun pug thing
this was what I had in mind in the first place (see: cod4 promod)
GentlemanJonSourcemod is unlikely to go anywhere any time soon and has an open source release requirement for plugins iirc. But I don't think most people are thinking of just some server plugins when they think of a promod, more like a new game client.
It really depends on what we need to do to fix the problems we have - if we can do it with a server plugin, that would be ideal, but I'm not well versed in the limitations of such a thing.
prShow Contentquake devs sucked --> reflex was born
tf2 devs suck --> ?wat can the future hold?
reflex wasn't born because the CPMA devs sucked, though: it was more just to breathe life back into the game
What TF2 desperately needs now, more so than ever, is to consolidate its role in the current swamp of "competitive" FPS games. Overwatch has eclipsed it in every way: it's more friendly to new players; it has more money in the competitive scene; it's fresh, it's polished and it has taken the crown of the casual class-based shooter.
This is fair enough: it's an easy game to get into, it's rewarding to play (even as a newbie) and it's very popular.
But is it good competitively?
Well, most of the mechanics are dumbed down. This is simply because Blizzard wanted to make the game playable on consoles, which was successful and caused the game to gain a lot of traction among the more casual playerbase. For example: explosive knockback (used for movement purposes) is all scripted, respawn times are minuscule, ultimates are purposely extremely powerful in order to retain the interest of less skilled players, maps are imbalanced, gameplay is incredibly slow and the skill ceiling is relatively low for a FPS.
So, what can we do about it?
Remember all that talk of a promod? Well, it's about time we got one. TF2 fills a niche in the current competitive FPS market, but it is nowhere near its potential within that niche. It has great movement, very high skill ceiling, fast gameplay (while still retaining hugely tactical elements, which prevents the game from becoming a deathmatch), and plenty of ways to apply your mechanical skill to succeed.
We are being held back by Valve. More specifically, their lack of knowledge/interest in the details of competitive play as we know it. This begs the question: is a promod really out of the question in 2016? I don't know much about the limitations of such a hypothetical mod, however I am certain that we could fix a lot of the shortcomings of the game as a community.
Here are some examples of things that could change:
- Weapon balancing via stats rather than whitelisting
- Class balance, and consequently class limits
- Optimisation, removal of cosmetics
The release of the recent "Competitive Mode" has shown us that Valve is not interested in the same things that we are. Taking control of how our game works, plays and looks may be a very important step to getting somewhere.
At least until the sequel.
