Mighty, your video looks perfectly fine. What about it to you looks off?
Muppet, the difference between Lawena and Srcdemo2, at least from my understanding, is that Srcdemo2 is easier on your HD. It'll take all your tgas and, while keeping the same quality, compress them into fewer PNGs. While I don't use, and never plan on using Srcdemo2, I feel like you might be trying to find a visual difference too much. Maybe you're right, maybe you're not, but really, the visual difference to me is basically not there.

Custom skybox in HLAE?

You can easily have custom skyboxes by just using Lawena (or srcdemo2; not sure of its capability). Why use HLAE? If you'd rather use what you're using, my only advice is just placing the custom skyboxes where other programs do.
