#34 no tuition in germany in Off Topic
MarxistThe government can and does make things cheaper because of their monopsony power in teh economy.

I agree with you (in more ways than several) but am I interested to hear a rebuttal to the classic counter-argument so I'll play devil's advocate: if the system runs like that where is the incentive to actually provide a good service? As you said they don't need to worry about being profitable, doesn't that also mean they don't need to worry about being the best they can be, or improving the services offered in a timely manner?

On the out of state argument: it's 34K for UC Santa Cruz and more for Uc Berkeley, those were the only two I looked out. Still pretty ridiculous.

Anyone else following baseball playoffs? I suppose it hasn't really started yet but this game looks great so far. How's your team's chances?

EricNobody is under any obligation to share anything they post, least of all some half-baked concept or another simple font-swap. You shouldn't feel as though you are somehow entitled to anybody else's work. You're not.

They're by no means OBLIGATED to. I agree. I just think the concept of posting some pictures of a hud to show off is stupid, and said so. Different interpretations of how the thread should function are allowed, no?

However, I think the thread title and OP are moot points. I don't really think anyone makes a hud for any reason but to share it and have people enjoy it, and if that's the case I think it's frustrating for people who want to use it to be given some weak justification like "I posted a picture but it's not done" when users are capable of finishing it themselves. If someone is making a hud just for themselves or something (???!?!) and don't want to have others use it, but do want to post pictures, that is their prerogative. However, I will think of them as an asshole. I reiterate: if that's your attitude why are you posting pictures if not to show off? This is especially applicable to people who claim to be looking for feedback and are not, or those who post 'teaser' pictures.

EricWell, some people mind.

So to clarify: you are defending the hypothetical hud maker who enjoys posting pictures of their work but not letting others use it? If they don't want to share their work why do they want others to know about it, wouldn't that just be bothersome? Why don't they want to share when regardless they're not going to receive any reward, monetary or otherwise, for their work, even if it's the most popular hud ever?

omniI don't think anyone is entitled to anybody else's modification, so please stop getting annoyed when someone doesn't have a dl.

Incoming wall of text sorry friends.

If there were a large group of people who were genuinely asking for and receiving feedback I would have no issue with it, but it seems to me the majority of this thread has become just posting images with no caption specifying feedback, which results in the four posts after that image being "dl?!!?! omg!!" and then another image, etc etc. If people even said "+frag if you like it -frag if you don't" I'd have been less inclined to make my post. But they don't. It's just an image of something random. If people are looking for design feedback, wouldn't they provide a question specifying which part they wanted feedback on? Or several different images with different options and asking people to choose? Mince put it better than I did.

Instead we just get these "teaser" pictures, which is what I really have an issue with. They were whom I was addressing in my post, NOT people like those you described. There's just no point and it's rather annoying.

As for your idea about adding the person (maybe I have a different view on this than most people), it seems rather rude to add someone just to ask them if you can try the hud. I've added several hud editors to ask them how they did something or what font they used, or if I could have one of their .vtfs, but asking to be a beta tester seems a little strange to me. Is there a tangible or practical reason to not publicly release a couple of the relevant files, rather than somehow expecting people to take the initiative and add you? Releasing just a couple .res files would surely need some work in clientscheme and hudlayout to actually work or look good, so it would probably only be used by people who knew what they were doing. There you have your small group of exclusive beta testers, with less knowledgable testers automatically weeded out by hud-editing prowess.

Or you can simply do something like I (not to toot my own horn) did earlier in this thread:
here's my image post specifying what feedback I wanted.
here's my disclaimer and download link

I see no reason not to do the above. I have a great amount of pride in my work, I would NEVER release a hud that's not finished to my standards (except for vaccinator which I refuse to do on principle until valve fixes the shadow bullshit). I just can't see any reason why, if you don't want to put up a download link until it's done (which I COMPLETELY understand), you would then post pictures without asking for feedback. Just seems stupid to me.

IDK, I never wanted to come across as whiny, just don't see the point of a ton of pictures of some obscure and random ideas with no download. What you did with the CSGO hud is perfect. You decided not to make a full hud and so you put up a download so people could finish it if they so desired. To single out colly again (this is, just like the first time, mostly a joke, colly's my best steam-group-creating friend), is he ever going to really FINISH any of these three different things he's been fucking around with into a full hud ?

It's possible, but I doubt it.

#5 Help modifying a HUD in Customization
DuffmanThanks for the links, i did post on that thread. I know what numbers need to be changed now but each .res file im trying isn't actually working. So if you have any ideas please help out :)

add me if you'd like: there's too many things you could be doing wrong to be able to easily tell from a forum post.

To people who say "i don't want to release it until it's finished" (aka everyone, not just harvard): if that's your attitude then don't post pictures. You're not honestly looking for feedback.

If you are genuinely hoping to improve your hud: posting a download link is a great way to do so! It's the equivalent of an open-source project. Most people who actively check this thread know how to edit huds, and maybe they can make something good out of your work, which you can then improve on, and then someone else tweaks it, etc. Hell, just throw a download link up for the .res file you screenshotted and people can change the font and implement it into their hud. There's literally no reason not to do the above. It's tf2 so i hope no one cares about their work being 'stolen' or something, and otherwise you look like you're just jerking yourself off to plus frags (which I'm honestly pretty sure most some of you are).

my mac doesn't have an fps cap at 60 (i regularly get spikes up to 100) but my fps has been constantly fluctuating since the patch (had amazing performance for a mac pre-update). i just kinda resigned myself to it, didn't think there was anything i could do.

#74 Making Pyro More Enjoyable for Everyone in TF2 General Discussion
Radmanqoski pretty much agree with all of this, except for reflects. Do you really find reflects to be all that random or easy?

the hitbox is gigantic. it's almost impossible to miss the rocket/projectile so all you have to do to reflect it is time it right. obviously actually hitting something with a reflect is just as hard as aiming that projectile regularly is (except more rewarding because for some mind-numbing reason reflects do minicrit damage), but it's way too easy to deny damage right now. a 2 hp pyro should have to actually aim to survive a gunboats soldier.
