The way I see it, this tournament is an attempt to make a competitive format that appeals to the majority of tf2 pubbers. If you prefer the 6s format > pubs then this isn't for you.
I'm all for greater support of payload/AD in a competitive format as that'll be much more appealing to the 45k people who play tf2 and don't care about the current 6s 5cp situation.
Why couldn't they just update it?
Delay the game 30 minutes?
5cp is really good for high mobility classes. That's why it naturally favors Scout and Soldier heavily.
Outside of 6s, 5cp is most likely the least popular game mode. Payload, Attack/Defend, Capture the Flag and even Payload Race have lots of community support and love but I hardly hear anyone speaking about how much they love a 5cp map.
So how can we expect the community to massively support a game mode that isn't even popular? I love 5cp but if we want a higher percent of players from the community(currently like 10%) then competitive needs to support the popular game modes and maps.
5cp 6s is closer to Quake, in terms of skill floor whereas Payload, and A/D are more accessible and require less game sense(a good thing) to get started in and allows for all classes to be used far more than 5cp 6s.
5cp 6s is a completely different game
I'm going by $500 USD, I think European prices may be different.
500 including a monitor???
I don't think you can do it unless you want a shitty non gaming monitor. Or your willing to play with minimum graphics
100 i3 6100
50 Mobo
50 1tb HD
50 PSU
50Ccase
Leaves about 200 for a gaming monitor. I'd recommend a benq 144hz
Or get a 100 monitor and get a i5 6500 instead.
I wish I was dead. Not in a crazed desperate sad way. But just thinking about my future and current events just makes me not want to deal with it anymore. Kinda wish life had an off button.
teamfortress.tv community can more childish than r/tf2. Anytime people bring up genuine concerns they'll inevitably be called a retard and its fine because its cool!
The point of competition should be a way to find out which teams are the best at TF2. That's why its considered good sportsmanship to not do anything outside of the game to gain an advantage as that defeats the point of the competition.
Good example is what is happening in Rio. The Brazilians were booing every competitor that wasn't Brazilians. Say what you want, but that gets in peoples heads and doesn't allow them to perform at their best.
The TF2 comp scene should be about TF2, not trying to gain an advantage trying to tilt a former teammate. Who you know tilts easily. Disgusting.

Avvyhoping for jerma & star );
Considering that this event is most likely targeting the majority of tf2 players who happen to not be competitive players, and Star and Jerma being one of the most popular tf2 entertainers, I think it would be a good idea too.
But you got downfragged to hell because you posted a casual yet reasonable opinion in a competitive forum///

I've been playing a lot of Overwatch and am getting massive frame drops on my aging potato, even on the lowest settings. What would I have to build to get a solid 144Hz experience? I've heard good things about Freesync and am willing to go that route if it means tolerating occasional sub-144 fps dips without tearing. I really would like to spend less than $1200 or so, as well (but this is flexible).
I've been keeping my eye on the recent GPU releases (RX 480/GTX 1060) and the price gouging & stock situation is pretty annoying. Should I wait for everything to normalize? Is it worth going with discounted previous gen cards like the Fury or 980 (Ti)? I'm not really sure what to do at the moment.
With a budget of 1200 you could get a i7 6700k and a 1070 which would run pretty much any game maxed at 1080 at 100+ and maybe even 144hz.
Here is something I picked out https://pcpartpicker.com/list/
It tops out at $1177 but if you watch for sales you could save some money
The i7 is often found for $300
SSDs have a lot of sales, I got a 240gb for $42
The ram is upgrade able in the future and you can always add more storage if needed. If you can, I would invest in a better CPU cooler though.
Also, if you don't need a i7, you could go for an i5 which would save you ~$100
I have 3 pm me your email
144hz is really important in scout v scout fights but scout v anything else is OK with 60. 144hz definitely helps but its completely doable with 60hz. I played for the longest time on 60hz and after switching to 144hz, the biggest improvement was definitely my scout v scout and my sniper aim.
Soldier and Demos benefit less and medics even less so.
I got banned on tf2center for talking about it.

Looks like dx98 is a smidge better for me than dx95. I'm more interested in matchmaking performance as thats when my fps gets shit on.
Noob question, how do I test my fps?
mat_dxlevel 98 doesn't work for some reason. You have to use dxlevel 98
