SetsulIf a free league can provide a better service than a paid league the obvious solution seems to be to invest that money in donations for a prize pool, not to hope that the paid league will improve their service after failing to do so for years.
I genuinely have to question what you're paying for at this point.
The NA community seems to have this weird masochistic streak where they can't take a league seriously until it has bent them over and fucked them in the ass at least three times to show them it's a real "business" and when anyone who prefers to remained unfucked suggest a different league it's shouted down with the usual war cries of "we can't split the community" and "there'd be no prize pool".
posts like this miss the point
rgl has one thing that keeps people playing it no matter what: it's the league that froyotech is in
whatever league the top 1-2 teams choose to play in will be the league of choice, there's just no avoiding that reality
wishTery_That's 144 votes. Or the equivalent of 24 teams.
The fact that RGL nearly put in a map that had votes from half of the people that actually played it, and 1/7th of their playerbase shows just how broken and fucked up some of their decision-making / plans are.
I mean... it's not RGL's fault nobody does the polls. If you don't want X to happen, people should vote against it. If the majority were people who voted 1 or 2 they wouldn't add the map to the pool
there's a reason esea did an invite roundtable to figure this shit out
clckwrkthis is fucking tf2. there are not many people who play this game and cultivating a "for the community" approach should be the number 1 priority for the league.
as I have said (here for instance: https://www.teamfortress.tv/post/1035702/rgl-announces-upcoming-summer-seasons-and-preseason-events) this is the crux of every single RGL issue.
carterit would be 6s with no unlocks other than kritzkrieg, xbow, basher, gunboats, original, escape plan, and iron bomber. also the medic speed buff would be reversed so that scouts move at medic speed when healed.
this thread wasn't asking "if tf2 was announced as an esport tomorrow, what ruleset would you advocate for", it's just asking what it would be like in the most realistic scenario imaginable
and if it's anything like every other esport, no unlock would be banned period, let alone almost all of them

eXtine was right the whole time...
Phantomvery commendable to win advanced and play invite with the same 6 people. love to see it
on the one hand, I agree
on the other, I'm pretty sure at least 3-4 of them are weebs

alfredodanINVITE QUALIFIER PREVIEW
???
xen.arc when his girlfriend broke up with him and cut everyone from his roster at once
damn did um steal makka's waifu or something why you gotta do my boy like this
DubThinkPSA: The deadline to have 5 paid up on your roster is TOMORROW, Saturday at 11:59 pm est. If you aren't able to, please go ahead and reach out now by creating a support ticket in the main discord and we can figure something out. The deadline for 6 paid is before your first match, which start next week.
If you have questions or requests regarding team placement or class restrictions, please reach out via support ticket in the main discord so that we can assist.
you should probably clarify that this doesn't apply to literally 40% of the division
ongoing list of people fucked extra-hard by rgl:
-kev
-safrix
-um
-aim
hmmm I am starting to see a bit of a pattern here...
also, since we've all acquiesced to playing the qualifier:
where is the thread about it to build hype? where is the news post listing the teams trying to qualify? etf2l always has that shit before the games happen, and considering the first matches will be played tonight, you kinda fucked up...
DubThinkWe haven't been done much to communicate our reasoning around the map pool
DubThinkOne of our current goals at RGL is to continue to improve the map pool, and supporting new maps is critical to that. This is a worthwhile goal
DubThinkWe haven't included older maps in recent surveys because the spot in the map pool isn't open to them
DubThinkwe'd much rather have a map with mixed opinions that's in development and will improve than one that has similarly mixed opinions and will never improve (i.e. granary/badlands).
we focused more on maps that have seen less exposure and are newer for this cup.
DubThinkImproving the map pool is part of our mission at RGL
DubThinkWe
Therein lies the problem with everything, the fundamental root problem with every terrible decision RGL has ever made.
That 'we' is a non-inclusive we. It's not 'we the competitive tf2 community', it's 'we the 5 people in RGL who have any real input'.
RGL is the fakest community league that has ever existed in tf2. The surveys are a smokescreen, because it's actually even more undemocratic than ESEA.
RGL is instead, at best (as in, this is how they see themselves), a benevolent dictatorship. Who cares if people want to play older maps? We will force in new ones, because it's for their own good. Who cares if people want to play with their friends in advanced and not grind the season like crazy? We will aggressively class restrict them, because it's for their own good. Who cares if black people want to be able to say the n word? We will ban them for it, because it's for their own good.
As long as that approach exists, no one will ever be satisfied with a single one of your decisions. That's the deal y'all have made.
so yeah, I don't know why rgl hasn't even slightly promoted this, but there's gonna be a 6 team round robin to decide the final 4 invite spots.
I don't know why they couldn't think of a better solution than us having to play 5 bo2s in the next 4 days, even if there were a qualifier happening, but that's the situation we find ourselves in.
