#8 playing tired in TF2 General Discussion

Around 6 years ago when I was at the top of my CS game, I used to purposely play when tired. The idea was that if I pushed myself to be the best when I was half asleep, then I'd be even better when I was wide awake. Stuff like that made me pretty good at CS back in the day. If the only time you have to play is when you're tired, maybe try to keep that in mind, may help motivate you to push all the harder.

That said, get some sleep when you need too.

#13 linux? in Off Topic
synchroKeep in mind that ESEA and CEVO only support Windows for their clients, so if you want to play in a league you'll have to keep a Windows machine/partition.

This is true, and one of the facts keeping a lot of people on this forum from going to Linux. ESEA and CEVO have no Linux client. It sucks and I hate it but thats how it is. If you're a Highlander player though, theres no issue, as UGC requires no client.

#3 linux? in Off Topic

If all/most of what you play is TF2, then I absolutely suggest switching. I switched awhile ago and have been very happy. If you play other games, check Steam to see if those games are also on Linux, quite a few already, but a lot of the huge AAA titles aren't yet.

I switched a little less then a year ago and I've noticed an overall increase in FPS on Ubuntu/Linux Mint, and the huge amount of choice you have is amazing. For example, I used Ubuntus default interface, Unity for while, which is nice and very friendly to new users. If you like it, you'll never have to do a thing, but I wanted ot explore. Later I switched to Cinnamon, which is a much more Windows like desktop environment, before switching to GNOME Flashback for a more classic Linux interface I've grown in love with. How do you easily switch from so many totally different interfaces on the same OS(that I wanted to link pictures of but tftvs linking is broken)? One command: Apt-get

In Ubuntu (and in fact most mainstream distros), you NEVER have to use the "scary" Terminal (Command prompt as its called in Windows) if you don't want too, or don't want to do anything complex, so in general you never have to worry about it....but honestly...its easier and faster once you know what to do. Dropping in "sudo apt-get install cinnamon" and/or "sudo apt-get install gnome-flashback" get me a brand new desktop every time. You can install Steam, Skype, or whatever program you really want doing the same thing, just gotta google to find the proper command. Its quicker and easier then downloading the program and installing it manually, but thats what most people are used too.

ANYWAY, ranting. Linux is fun. Install it on a USB stick and boot from it and play from there first, just remember it'll be slower then having it actually installed. Be warned, the system is VASTLY different from Windows, so don't expect it to act like Windows, but don't think its bad because its different, I've come to think the opposite.

Oh, and don't be afraid to break things. When you first install, toy around, play with stuff, push and shove the OS to see what it can and cannot do. If you break it, just reformat, its MUCH easier to do then it is with Windows. Hell, you get to use the OS WHILE the disk formats, so go nuts!

#130 Your Biggest Regrets in Off Topic

Stopping my Counter-Strike play.

Before Steam recorded your hours played, I had at least 3k+ hours into CS:S and about 500+ into 1.6, playing a good 8 hours a day. I used to be good, at least CAL-M+ level at the time. I stopped playing when I switched to TF2, and as much as I love this game, a huge part of me wishes I never quit playing. I feel like, at the skill level I was at all those years, if I continued to play to this day, I'd be on a respectable team going to tourneys. I wouldn't be knocking NiP around, but god damn it'd be fun to try, but now I'll never really know.

In life regrets however, going to DeVry. Not only was the college honestly worse then my previous tech center, but I quickly realized I wanted to go to a Career college/trade school instead. My Dyscalculia made the math courses impossible, and only half a year into it my apartment was flooded and I had to drop out anyway, losing a chance at higher education and having to move back home.

Also, DeVry just kinda sucks in general. Also, I loved Chicago, but finding a job was impossible. I remember going to McDonalds for a one dollar burger because I was hungry and broke, and saw the 4 different people in front of me all spoke different languages, and the cashier spoke every one of them back with easy. At that point I knew I was pretty fucked anyway.

#12 CPU-Intergrated Graphics in TF2? in Hardware
sherman_gluckif u get one of the new haswell processors...i think its said its equal to a 460

I'd love to see where you heard this. Every review I've seen has shown that every intel IGP aside from Iris Pro are still fairly shit.

www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i7_4770K_Haswell_GPU/1.html

Little off topic, but the only IGP thats remotely gameworthy would be the ones featured on the AMD APUs. The A10-7850K features a Radeon R7 GPU, basically an R7 250-260. Even the older APUs, such as the A10-6800K feature a Radeon HD 8670D. I wouldn't focus on gaming on an intel GPU unless you're lucky and have a new laptop that features the Iris Pro.

That said, if you have no other choice and have to run intel graphics, throwing on a maxframes config should fix any issues you have.

#64 Music in TF2 General Discussion

Progish metal and rock, usually. Things like (from heaviest to softest) Opeth, Katatonia, and Riverside. I also enjoy a lot of instrumental metal, like Sithu Aye and Sean Hall. I tend to like the darker stuff, I dunno.

Something I don't understand is why people have to be on one end of the extreme or the other. It feels like the only choices are all-troll-all-the-time or tumblr SJW hugbox where no one can say bad words.

What ever happened to just being a decent human being?

vanillajust have the scouts midrange the pyro and hitscan him to death.

Doesn't the shotgun have better midrange then the scattergun, and a tighter spread? If so, the pyro would have a better midrange game unless hes using the flaregun.

Would love to see it played out, in dota fortress or otherwise.

Ok, so, Ruwin got cut from his team, was upset and made fun of some not-really-all-that-chubby girl, got called out on being a dick so he lost his shit and quit the internet forever.

Dumb. Gotcha.

But the big question remains: WHO SHALL RULE THE TOP OF THE TFTV STREAM LIST NOW?

#113 Do you PUG? Why/Why Not? in TF2 General Discussion

I don't pug because I'm stuck between "Pub allstar" and "actually good" and its incredibly frustrating. On top of that, I don't really have to many people on my friends list who pug regularly, so I have to do it with a bunch of randoms, and playing HL engie with randoms is a nightmare.

As sad as it is, pubbing is easier. I know not to rely on people in pubs, where as in pugs I HAVE to, and it usually doesn't work out and becomes incredibly unfun.

I used to do mix.nahl quite a bit but it grew pretty cancerous. My last handful of mixs were basically a bunch of friends in mumble who would laugh off comms, fuck around and troll, any attempt to comm in-game was met with a "Shut up nerd" or the like. Pretty much a huge waste of time. I haven't been to the IRC in awhile.

Didn't want it to end. Fantastic broadcast, great presentation, awesome events, and lots of amazing surprises. I didn't want it to end, and its a shame we only get something this good once a year.
