Look for places there are still clearing out their old 7000s series, the new AMD R9 280 is just re-branded 7970, and any of the "old 7970s" under 300 (perferably around 250) is a great purchase. On the CPU side 3570k is still a great CPU once OCed (I'm assuming you already have)

Edit: Also take upcoming software into account, G-Sync and streaming looks really nice, even though AMD is starting to beat nVidea in performance, nVidea's streaming feature could be really cool to use for tf2 without the need for a good CPU. G-sync will be an absolute beast if you have the supported monitor (even running at 30fps it wouldn't look terrible). The price drop of the 770s is great too. Encourage you to do more research (on actual hardware/techwebsites) before purchasing; you could even wait for the Christmas (Black Friday?) deals if you want.

Finally IV breeding is easier, always hated people arguing about the use of pokesaved pokemons. I always thought that with ease of access to new perfect IVed pokes allowed the meta game to change much quicker and allows specs to see a wider range of pokes and strats.

Every generation always had amazing designs and shitty designs, don't let nostalgia blur your perception. I mean Dugtrio is still cool as hell but you can't really give flak to newer pokemon that didn't look like animals and ignore all the older pokemons that was not animals to begin with.

Not really since the sandys OCed better. For all I know his 2500k could be OCed more than my 3570k and thus performed about the same as the newer gens.

You can also wait a bit, the price drops from AMD is due the the new line of R7s and R9s coming out. If you don't want the new cards the old cards will still keep the dropped prices/sales; plus nVidia might even be forced to drop their prices of the new line to be competetive with AMD soon. Who knows?

The GPU: I honestly don't know enough about video encoding and editing to even comment on the GPU really. While I understand that 680/780 is very capable, ther are specific lines of GPUs made for the sole purpose of video editing. I heard of people using a CUDA card for the primary editing and using a GTX 780 only for speeding up the process or something alone those lines.

Bottom line, I think this is the wrong place to ask for something like this. There are a lot of professionals in video editing with vast amount of knowledge in hardware and related issues. Better seek help elsewhere?
